Revisiting the strong and weak ENSO teleconnection impacts using a high-resolution atmospheric model

Muhammad Mubashar Ahmad Dogar et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the climatic impacts of ENSO forcing using a high-resolution atmospheric model (HiRAM) with AMIP-style simulations. The HiRAM model performed well in reproducing the impacts of strong ENSO on a global scale, but underestimated the teleconnection patterns and associated changes on a regional scale. The study also found that ENSO impacts were relatively stronger over the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and significantly influenced the Hadley and Walker circulations.

The asymmetric impacts of ENSO modoki on boreal winter climate over the Pacific and its rim

Summary: The El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Modoki phenomenon significantly impacts regional climate, with asymmetrical climate anomalies observed in the boreal winter during the different phases of ENSO Modoki. The anomalies are mainly related to Walker circulation and Hadley circulation anomalies.

Summary: This study analyzes two subtypes of Central Pacific (CP) El Nino and shows that they have different sea surface temperature evolution patterns and generation mechanisms, as well as potentially different responses to global warming.
