Appropriate duration of antithyroid drug treatment as a predictor for relapse of Graves' disease: a systematic scoping review

The Utilization of Chinese Herbal Products for Hyperthyroidism in National Health Insurance System (NHIRD) of Taiwan: A Population-Based Study

Summary: This study describes the core prescription pattern of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) used in the treatment of patients with hyperthyroidism in Taiwan. The most commonly prescribed Chinese herbal product (CHP) formula was Jia-Wei-Xia-Yao-San, while Xia-Ku-Cao was the most commonly prescribed single CHP. The study also found that TCM was more acceptable among female patients.

Xiao-Luo-Wan treats propylthiouracil-induced goiter with hypothyroidism in rats through the PI3K-AKT/RAS pathways based on UPLC/MS and network pharmacology

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic effect and molecular mechanism of Xiao-Luo-Wan (XLW) on PTU-induced goiter with hypothyroidism in rats. The results showed that XLW improved thyroid function, reduced goiter, increased body weight, and promoted the recovery of thyroid follicles and epithelial cells. The molecular mechanism study suggested that XLW may regulate thyroid hormone signaling by modulating the PI3K-AKT, RAS, and other signaling pathways.

Summary: Graves' disease is an autoimmune disease characterized by goiter and hyperthyroidism, with some patients also developing eye proptosis. Traditional treatment options have remained largely unchanged for the past 70 years and often result in high recurrence rates or lifelong hypothyroidism. New therapeutic ideas, including biologics, small molecule peptides, and immunomodulators, as well as the effective components of traditional Chinese medicine, have opened up new possibilities for treating Graves' disease.
