Adipose tissue, systematic inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases

Ana Paula de A. Boleti et al.

Summary: Obesity is associated with various diseases, including mental health. Excessive nutritional intake leads to hypertrophy and proliferation of adipocytes, causing local hypoxia in adipose tissue and changes in adipokine release. This results in the recruitment of immune cells and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, leading to neuroinflammation.

Association between circulating oxidized OxLDL/LDL-C ratio and the severity of coronary atherosclerosis, along with other emerging biomarkers of cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between circulating oxLDL/LDL-C ratio and the severity of coronary atherosclerosis, along with other emerging biomarkers of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that the oxLDL/LDL-C ratio was positively associated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis, and IL33 correlated positively with oxLDL/LDL-C ratio. VCAM-1 had similar trends with oxLDL/LDL-C ratio in different groups.

Anti-inflammatory medications for the treatment of mental disorders: A scoping review

Rebecca Fitton et al.

Summary: This scoping review assessed the effect of anti-inflammatory medications in mental disorders. The findings suggest that the use of anti-inflammatory agents in mental disorders may be beneficial, but treatment may differ depending on the specific disorder. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed, considering inflammation markers.

Therapeutic targeting of inflammation in hypertension: from novel mechanisms to translational perspective

Eleanor C. Murray et al.

Summary: Both animal models and human studies have demonstrated the significant role of immune and inflammatory mechanisms in hypertension and its related complications. Immune-modulating interventions, including non-specific approaches and targeted medications, have shown promise in lowering blood pressure, reducing organ damage, and managing cardiovascular risk in both experimental and small clinical studies. Further targeted studies are needed to evaluate their effects in hypertensive individuals.

Depression and obesity among females, are sex specificities considered?

Ingrid Baldini et al.

Summary: Through a systematic review of 20 articles with female samples and 54 articles with mixed samples, it was found that most articles evaluated the relationship between depression and obesity, with few considering confounding factors related to female hormones. Existing research supports the bidirectional influence between depression and obesity, but the study of sex specificities remains under-investigated.

Leptin and Obesity: Role and Clinical Implication

Milan Obradovic et al.

Summary: Leptin, a peptide hormone, regulates food intake, body mass, and reproductive function, playing a crucial role in fetal growth, immune responses, angiogenesis, and lipolysis. Leptin resistance can lead to reduced satiety, overconsumption of nutrients, and increased body mass, potentially causing obesity. Combining leptin therapies with sensitizers may help overcome resistance and treat obesity effectively.

Metabolic Messengers: tumour necrosis factor

Jaswinder K. Sethi et al.

Summary: This review focuses on tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in the context of metabolic inflammation, highlighting its immunometabolic actions and relevance to other pro-inflammatory signals and metabolic diseases. It presents a conceptual framework applicable to the complex network of pro-inflammatory signals and their integration with metabolic regulation.
