Regulation of cytokinin biosynthesis using PtRD26(pro)-IPT module improves drought tolerance through PtARR10-PtYUC4/5-mediated reactive oxygen species removal in Populus

Hou-Ling Wang et al.

Summary: Drought is a major environmental factor that limits plant growth and survival. Genetic engineering has been used to enhance plant drought tolerance. In this study, transgenic poplar lines expressing the isopentenyl transferase gene (IPT) under the control of the senescence and drought-inducible PtRD26 promoter (PtRD26(pro)-IPT) showed improved growth and drought tolerance. The activation of auxin biosynthesis pathway and the regulation of cytokinin pathway were found to be involved in the improved drought tolerance of the transgenic plants. The findings of this study provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction between cytokinin and auxin in response to environmental stresses, and suggest a potential approach for improving drought tolerance in trees through molecular breeding.

Molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium spp., Enterocytozoon bieneusi and Giardia duodenalis in laboratory rodents in China

Nanhao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the infection rates and molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium spp., Enterocytozoon bieneusi, and Giardia duodenalis in laboratory rodents in China. The results showed that the infection rates of Cryptosporidium spp. and Enterocytozoon bieneusi were 3.8% and 3.0%, respectively. Some of the genotypes identified had a high zoonotic risk. Giardia duodenalis was not detected in the samples.

Integrating transcriptome and metabolome analyses of the response to cold stress in pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima)

Fengmei Li et al.

Summary: Physiological, transcriptome, and metabolome analyses were conducted on Cucurbita maxima under 5 degrees C and 25 degrees C treatment, revealing significant changes in physiological indicators, differential expression of regulatory genes, and metabolite profiles under cold stress. These findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of C. maxima in response to cold stress.
