Green's Function Formulation of Quantum Defect Embedding Theory

Nan Sheng et al.

Summary: In this study, we present a Green's function formulation of the quantum defect embedding theory and demonstrate its robustness by applying it to defects in diamond. Our results indicate that QDET is a promising approach to investigate strongly correlated states of defects in solids.

Reliably assessing the electronic structure of cytochrome P450 on today's classical computers and tomorrow's quantum computers

Joshua J. Goings et al.

Summary: An accurate assessment of the potential computational advantages of quantum computers in chemical simulation is crucial for their deployment. This study explores the resources required for assessing the electronic structure of cytochrome P450 enzymes using quantum and classical computations, defining a boundary for classical-quantum advantage. The results show that simulation of large-scale CYP models has the potential to be a quantum advantage problem, emphasizing the interplay between classical computations and quantum algorithms in chemical simulation.

Quantum hardware calculations of periodic systems with partition-measurement symmetry verification: Simplified models of hydrogen chain and iron crystals

Kentaro Yamamoto et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of running quantum algorithms on real hardware in order to understand their strengths and limitations, especially in the NISQ era. The researchers focus on practical quantum computational calculations of solid-state crystalline materials using a noise mitigation technique called partition-measurement symmetry verification. The results show that the correlation energies obtained by the hardware calculations agree with those of the state-vector simulations, indicating the potential for applying these techniques to more complex cases as quantum hardware advances.

Doubling the Size of Quantum Simulators by Entanglement Forging

Andrew Eddins et al.

Summary: This article presents a method called classical entanglement forging that uses classical resources to increase the size of systems that can be simulated on quantum hardware. By utilizing classical postprocessing, the researchers were able to simulate ten spin orbitals of the water molecule on five qubits of an IBM Quantum processor, achieving the most accurate variational simulation of the H2O ground-state energy using quantum hardware to date. The authors discuss the conditions for the applicability of classical entanglement forging and propose a roadmap for scaling up to larger problems.

Clifford Circuit Optimization with Templates and Symbolic Pauli Gates

Sergey Bravyi et al.

Summary: The Clifford group is a finite subgroup of the unitary group consisting of Hadamard, CNOT, and Phase gates. This study focuses on finding short quantum circuits for implementing a given Clifford group element, using methods like template matching and symbolic peephole optimization. The software implementation of these methods achieved circuits that are 0.2% away from optimal for 6 qubits and reduced the two-qubit gate count by an average of 64.7% for circuits with up to 64 qubits.
