Joint Emergency Data and Service Evacuation in Cloud Data Centers Against Early Warning Disasters

Lisheng Ma et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a joint data and service evacuation scheme for emergency protection in cloud data centers, by exploiting the early warning time and designing time-efficient heuristics. Extensive numerical results demonstrate its efficiency in improving the survivability of data and services.

Towards Heat-Recirculation-Aware Virtual Machine Placement in Data Centers

Hao Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of virtual machine placement strategies on energy consumption in data centers and proposes a novel strategy that considers heat recirculation. The SABA algorithm is designed to reduce the energy consumption of physical resources during VM placement. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy significantly improves the energy efficiency of data centers.

Criso: An Incremental Scalable and Cost-Effective Network Architecture for Data Centers

Hao Feng et al.

Summary: Criso is a new type of DCN architecture designed hierarchically and recursively, utilizing two ports servers and commodity switches. It is cost-efficient, scalable, and fault-tolerant, based on isomorphic pods connected through external interfaces provided by switches. The fault-tolerant routing algorithm in Criso allows it to handle multiple failures, and it outperforms existing data center structures in terms of network capacity, scalability, cost, power consumption, and fault tolerance.

RPO: Receiver-driven Transport Protocol Using Opportunistic Transmission in Data Center

Jinbin Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a solution called RPO that efficiently utilizes available bandwidth while retaining the advantages of receiver-driven transmission. RPO uses low-priority opportunistic packets to improve network utilization without increasing the queueing delay of normal packets. Experimental results show that RPO significantly improves network utilization by up to 35% compared to existing transmission schemes.
