Threshold quantities and Lyapunov functions for ordinary differential equations epidemic models with mass action and standard incidence functions

Baba Seidu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel algebraic method, named as Jacobian-Determinant method, for constructing Lyapunov functions to study the global stability of disease-free equilibrium points in deterministic epidemic ordinary differential equation models. The method relies on a direct algebraic procedure and determines a threshold quantity, R'0, which is analogous to the basic reproduction number, R0. The method is applied to various models and reveals that the threshold quantity is related to the basic reproduction numbers obtained using the next-generation matrix method, even for models that do not use standard or mass action incidence.

Optimal control and comprehensive cost-effectiveness analysis for COVID-19

Joshua Kiddy K. Asamoah et al.

Summary: In this study, we used a nonlinear deterministic model to analyze the cost-effectiveness of COVID-19 control strategies in Saudi Arabia. We proposed four time-dependent optimal control strategies and performed numerical simulations. The results showed that practicing physical or social distancing protocols is the most cost-saving and effective intervention in the absence of vaccination.

Modeling the effectiveness of TV and social media advertisements on the dynamics of water-borne diseases

Kusum Lata et al.

Summary: This study proposes a nonlinear mathematical model to control the prevalence of cholera disease, incorporating TV and social media advertisements as a dynamic variable. The findings suggest that TV and social media ads have the potential to reduce the number of cholera infections and control the epidemic.

Mathematical Analysis of an Industrial HIV/AIDS Model that Incorporates Carefree Attitude Towards Sex

Baba Seidu et al.

Summary: A nonlinear differential equation model was proposed to study the dynamics of HIV/AIDS and its impact on workforce productivity, showing that the disease-free equilibrium point is locally asymptotically stable when R-0 is less than 1. The model exhibits multiple endemic states when R-0 < 1 and > 1. Optimal control analysis suggests that preventing infections and treating infected individuals is the most cost-effective strategy in combating HIV/AIDS spread within the workforce.

Sensitivity assessment and optimal economic evaluation of a new COVID-19 compartmental epidemic model with control interventions

Joshua Kiddy K. Asamoah et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of economic evaluation in disease control and proposes a compartmental structure for describing the dynamics of COVID-19. It found that multiple peaks of COVID-19 in Ghana and Egypt can be prevented by stringent health protocols and minimizing individual reluctance towards protective equipment.
