Patient-centered simulation: Practicing interprofessional teamwork with standardized patients

Summary: The simulation environment provides students with a real and safe setting to practice interprofessional skills. The interprofessional learning activity of Team Care Planning involves a simulated discharge meeting where interdisciplinary teams of students discuss the discharge plan and meet with the patient and family. The evaluation of teamwork is done using the Jefferson Teamwork Observation Guide, and students also report their perceived knowledge and skills gained from the activity through electronic evaluation.

Student outcomes for interprofessional education in student led clinics: A rapid review

Participating in interprofessional education in student-led clinics helps students understand their own roles, as well as the roles of other professions, improves individual and team working abilities, and positively impacts patient-centered care. Additional research is needed to assess the long-term effects on student outcomes and the impact of specific components of interprofessional education models.
