Combined effects of host genetics and diet on human gut microbiota and incident disease in a single population cohort

Youwen Qin et al.

Summary: A study conducted on a large population-based cohort of 5,959 Finnish individuals identified genetic variations associated with gut microbial abundances. The study found 567 independent SNP-taxon associations, including associations with LCT, ABO, and MED13L genes. The findings shed light on the complex interactions between host genetics and gut microbiota, and their potential role in disease development.

Effect of host genetics on the gut microbiome in 7,738 participants of the Dutch Microbiome Project

Esteban A. Lopera-Maya et al.

Summary: Host genetics influence the gut microbiome, with the LCT and ABO genes showing significant associations with microbial composition and function. The associations at the LCT locus are modulated by lactose intake, while those at ABO can be explained by participant secretor status determined by their FUT2 genotype. Further loci also show potential associations with microbial taxa and pathways. Larger sample sizes are needed to fully understand the effects of host genetics on the gut microbiome.

GMrepo v2: a curated human gut microbiome database with special focus on disease markers and cross-dataset comparison

Die Dai et al.

Summary: GMrepo is a curated database of human gut metagenomes aimed at increasing data reusability and accessibility, and enabling cross-project and phenotype comparisons. The latest version, GMrepo v2, includes more projects and samples obtained through different sequencing methods. Various disease markers have been identified and compared across datasets to facilitate the discovery of consistent microbial markers.

Host genetics and gut microbiota cooperatively contribute to azoxymethane-induced acute toxicity in Collaborative Cross mice

Chenhan Zhong et al.

Summary: The study revealed that host genetics and specific microbiome members play a critical role in AOM-induced acute toxicity. Gut microbial families Ruminococcaceae and Lactobacillaceae acted as mediators between host genetics and AOM toxicity. The combination of genetic loci and microbial families significantly increased the predictive accuracy of AOM toxicity.

Genome-wide association study in 8,956 German individuals identifies influence of ABO histo-blood groups on gut microbiome

Malte Christoph Ruehlemann et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiome is considered an important modulating factor in inflammatory, neurologic, and neoplastic diseases. Host genetics may play a role in driving the composition of the microbiome. Genetic loci associated with single bacteria and overall microbiome composition have been identified, with potential causative and protective effects of gut microbes on diseases like inflammatory bowel disease.

Mouse Genome Database (MGD): Knowledgebase for mouse-human comparative biology

Judith A. Blake et al.

Summary: The Mouse Genome Database serves as a community model organism knowledge base for laboratory mice, providing authoritative biological reference data related to mouse genes, gene functions, phenotypes, and mouse models of human disease. It follows official guidelines for gene, allele, and mouse strain nomenclature and curates information from biomedical literature and datasets contributed by investigators. Major enhancements have been made to content and interfaces at MGD, including improvements in the Multi Genome Viewer, inclusion of more mouse strains, and integration of extensive data about mouse strain variants.

Gut microbiome partially mediates and coordinates the effects of genetics on anxiety-like behavior in Collaborative Cross mice

X. Jin et al.

Summary: This study used a mouse model to investigate the relationship between anxiety behavior, host genetic factors, and gut microbiome composition. Through GWAS and microbiome composition analysis, genes related to anxiety and depression were identified, along with differences in microbiome composition between high and low anxiety mice. The findings suggest that the gut microbiome partially mediates and coordinates the effects of genetics on anxiety.

Protective Effects of Microbiome-Derived Inosine on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Liver Damage and Inflammation in Mice via Mediating the TLR4/NF-κB Pathway

Weiling Guo et al.

Summary: The research assessed the protective effects of inosine on liver injury and inflammation by modulating the intestinal microbiota structure and TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway in LPS-treated mice. Inosine pretreatment significantly reduced inflammatory factors secretion, ALT and AST levels, and improved antioxidant enzyme activity and relative abundance of certain genera. The results suggest that inosine pretreatment has the potential for preventing LPS-induced acute liver damage through its regulatory effects on both intestinal microbiota and hepatic signaling pathways.
