Effect of droplet transition on the dynamic behavior of the keyhole during 6061 aluminum alloy laser-MIG hybrid welding

Yue Li et al.

Summary: The simulation method in laser-MIG hybrid welding reveals the complex physical phenomena and dynamic behavior of the molten pool keyhole. The experimental results show that the droplet transition behavior affects the formation of the keyhole, with the smallest keyhole formed when the droplet comes into contact with the molten pool. Additionally, droplet transition brings external momentum and energy to the molten pool, contributing to an increase in the flow rate of the molten pool.

Minimizing defects and controlling the morphology of laser welded aluminum alloys using power modulation-based laser beam oscillation

Jing Han et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of Full Domain Power Modulation (FDPM) system in laser welding of aluminum alloys. It is found that the Gradient Power (GP) mode produces welds with the lowest porosity and the largest equiaxed crystal ratio. The strong stirring effect in GP mode helps remove pores and improve the microstructure of the molten pool.

Modeling and numerical study of keyhole-induced porosity formation in laser beam oscillating welding of 5A06 aluminum alloy

Wenchao Ke et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical framework and methods to suppress porosity formation in laser beam oscillating welding. The study found that porosity decreased and was fully inhibited when using an infinity-oscillating path with a frequency of 200 Hz. The developed multi-physics model aids in understanding keyhole-induced porosity formation during laser beam oscillating welding of 5A06 aluminum alloy.

Adjustable Ring Mode (ARM) laser welding of stainless steels

Lin Wang et al.

Summary: The adjustable ring mode (ARM) laser, combining annular and gaussian laser beams, shows promising potential for stabilizing laser-based welding processes. Experimental investigation of laser-material processing under different laser modes revealed varying effects on keyhole entrance characteristics and fusion efficiency. Plasma intensity was found to have a positive relationship with keyhole geometry in different shaped laser beam welding, impacting fusion efficiency across weld cross-sections.

Effects of laser oscillating frequency on energy distribution, molten pool morphology and grain structure of AA6061/AA5182 aluminum alloys lap welding

Lin Chen et al.

Summary: This paper investigated lap welding of 1.5 mm AA6061 and AA5182 aluminum alloy sheets with laser beam circular oscillation. The effects of oscillating frequency on weld formation, grain structure, and mechanical properties were studied through experiments and numerical simulations. Increasing frequency led to changes in heat input, energy distribution, and keyhole depth, affecting the molten pool shape, grain size, and internal hardness distribution in the weld.

Numerical study of keyhole-induced porosity suppression mechanism in laser welding with beam oscillation

Lin Shi et al.

Summary: By investigating the suppression mechanism of keyhole-induced porosity in oscillating laser beam welding through numerical simulation and experimental verification, it was found that controlling the energy balance of the keyhole and melt pool can effectively reduce the weld porosity of 304 stainless steel. Additionally, two mechanisms were identified for porosity suppression: the stirring effect of the oscillating beam and the timely absorption of bubbles by the dynamic keyhole.

Effects of energy density attenuation on the stability of keyhole and molten pool during deep penetration laser welding process: A combined numerical and experimental study

Yilin Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of energy density attenuation on the welding process using innovative characterizing methods and a multiphase model. It reveals the phenomenon of alternate melting between the keyhole wall and bottom due to energy density attenuation, as well as its correlation with molten pool fluctuations. Regulating the movement of protrusions can improve molten pool stability. Adjusting beam defocus and inclination is proposed as an optimization method to enhance welding stability.
