Droplet Evaporation on Hot Micro-Structured Superhydrophobic Surfaces: Analysis of Evaporation from Droplet Cap and Base Surfaces

Wenge Huang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally and theoretically investigates the evaporation of sessile water droplets on hot micro-structured superhydrophobic surfaces. The effects of substrate roughness and temperature on droplet evaporation are analyzed using a comprehensive thermal circuit model. The study distinguishes and systematically studies the heat and mass transfer from both the droplet cap and base surfaces during evaporation. The results show that the decrease of evaporation rate from the droplet base contributes most to the overall decreasing heat transfer rate during constant contact radius mode of evaporation.

Wetting and evaporation of multicomponent droplets

Zhenying Wang et al.

Summary: Wetting and evaporation of sessile droplets are widespread phenomena with significant implications in various industrial and everyday processes. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the physical and physicochemical mechanisms underlying the wetting and spreading of multicomponent droplets, particularly focusing on volatile multicomponent droplets. The paper also summarizes the experimental and numerical methodologies used to study these complex droplets, including their application conditions, accuracy, resolution, and limitations. Furthermore, the authors discuss the importance of exploring the interacting mechanisms with complex droplets and highlight the potential innovations in cutting-edge applications such as 3D printing, self-cleaning, digital microfluidics, cellular sorting, and biomedical diagnosis.

Analysis of the correction factors and coupling characteristics of multi-droplet evaporation

Qingzhu Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the multi-droplet evaporation process is simplified and corrected by introducing a correction factor and an influence threshold. The study investigates the effect of droplet interactions on the evaporation process. The results show that droplet interactions slow down the evaporation rate, and droplets with larger sizes and smaller spacing have a greater inhibitory effect on the studied droplet.

Computational and experimental investigations on the evaporation of single and multiple elongated droplets

Akam Aboubakri et al.

Summary: This study provides experimental investigation on the evaporation of high aspect ratio elongated droplets for the first time. A fully coupled model is developed and validated, considering all instabilities in both liquid and gas phases. The results show that droplet evaporation dynamics dramatically changes with droplet size, shape, and distance between adjacent droplets.

Interferometric measurement of co-operative evaporation in 2D droplet arrays

Andrew M. J. Edwards et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new interferometric technique for precise measurements of droplet evaporation rates, revealing that the evaporation rate is highly dependent on the position of the droplet within the array and its confinement. The results are in good quantitative agreement with a recent analytical model of cooperative evaporation rates.
