In-situ fabrication of repairing layers for large structures using follow-up hot-hammering-assisted wire arc additive manufacturing

Xiaochen Xiong et al.

Summary: The development of a spherical hammer head enables the application of hammering-assisted process to the in-situ repair of large-scale structural parts. Through the use of a thermal, mechanical and plastic deformation coupled finite element model, the plastic strain distribution with different hammer head shapes and deformation histories is analyzed. Compared with flat hammer heads, spherical hammer heads are more effective in producing large plastic deformation and obtaining uniform microstructure.

Understanding and designing post-build rolling for mitigation of residual stress and distortion in wire arc additively manufactured components

Valeriy Gornyakov et al.

Summary: Post-build rolling can effectively mitigate residual stress and distortion in WAAM-built components, with slotted rollers being the most effective in introducing tensile plastic strain to counteract compressive strain generated during WAAM deposition. The rolling load and roller-to-wall friction coefficient significantly influence the effectiveness of the mitigation process, providing insights for the development of optimal post-build rolling processes in WAAM manufacturing.

A fuzzy finite element model based on the eigenstrain method to evaluate the welding distortion of T-joint fillet welded structures

Shupeng Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, a fuzzy finite element model is proposed to evaluate the welding distortion of T-joint fillet welding using the eigenstrain method. The optimized coefficients of eigenstrains can be found by introducing the genetic algorithm. The results show that the eigenstrain distribution calculated by the optimized coefficients can accurately and efficiently predict the welding distortion.

Computationally Efficient Models of High Pressure Rolling for Wire Arc Additively Manufactured Components

Valeriy Gornyakov et al.

Summary: This study developed four efficient rolling models and achieved a 96.5% reduction in computational time and accurate stress and strain predictions by using a short-length transient model with fewer elements than a control model. An Eulerian steady-state model was slightly less efficient but much less accurate. The 2D rolling model was highly efficient but less predictive.

Influence of welding sequence on residual stress distribution and deformation in Q345 steel H-section butt-welded joint

Yifeng Wang et al.

Summary: This paper developed a thermo-elastic-plastic finite element method to simulate welding residual stresses and deformation in low alloy high strength steel joints. The study found that welding sequence has an influence on residual stress distribution and deformation, recommending welding the web first in the fabrication of H-section butt-welded joints.
