Lived experience experts: a name created by us for us

Summary: People affected by medical disorders, known as patients, and their close family members develop valuable expertise from their lived experiences. However, they are often overlooked in research and only seen as subjects. Involving patients and their families, also known as lived experience experts (LEE), in research leadership roles can greatly enhance the quality and relevance of research.

Co-producing rapid research: Strengths and challenges from a lived experience perspective

They discuss the requirements and characteristics of co-production in rapid research, highlight the strengths and challenges of involving LERs in rapid research, and provide recommendations for meaningful involvement. The work presented in this paper demonstrates the viability, value, and potential of incorporating meaningful co-production, particularly in the context of rapid research.

The study found that critical factors for successful implementation of expert by experience positions include finding the right person, defining the right role, collaboration, support, and career pathways. This knowledge can provide valuable insights for academics who wish to support the expansion of expert by experience roles in mental health education.

Summary: This article explores the experiences of being cared-for by using autoethnography, and discusses the negotiation of the carer identity in the caring relationship. The author also introduces a service model that promotes a family network approach and recovery training programs to support carers in promoting the recovery of the service user.
