Functional and structural alterations of dorsal attention network in preclinical and early-stage Alzheimer's disease

Huimin Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the multimodal alterations of the dorsal attention network (DAN) in subjects with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), and found that these alterations were closely related to cognitive performance. The combined multiple indicators of DAN could serve as potential neuroimaging markers for the diagnosis of preclinical and early-stage Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Altered glutamate-glutamine and amide proton transfer-weighted values in the hippocampus of patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment: A novel combined imaging diagnostic marker

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: This study quantified the levels of hippocampal glutamate-glutamine (Glx) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) as well as protein-based amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) signals in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). The combination of right hippocampal Glx levels and APTw values improved the diagnostic performance for aMCI, suggesting it as a promising combined imaging diagnostic marker. This research provides a potential imaging diagnostic strategy for aMCI, which could contribute to the early detection and timely intervention of aMCI to delay the pathological progress towards Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation-based regional radiomics similarity network: Biomarker for Parkinson?s disease

Dafa Shi et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a challenging disorder to diagnose, but reliable biomarkers are necessary. Researchers developed a regional radio-mic similarity network (R2SN) using the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and successfully classified PD patients and healthy individuals. The ALFF-based R2SN showed reproducibility and achieved good classification performance, demonstrating its potential as a robust neuroimaging biomarker for PD.

Gamma neuromodulation improves episodic memory and its associated network in amnestic mild cognitive impairment: a pilot study

Kevin T. Jones et al.

Summary: The study explores the feasibility and potential effects of noninvasive neurostimulation for amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), suggesting that gamma transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) may improve episodic memory in aMCI patients by modulating connectivity and excitability within an episodic memory network.

Shared and specific dynamics of brain activity and connectivity in amnestic and nonamnestic mild cognitive impairment

Xiaomei Zhong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare temporal variability in the spontaneous fluctuations of activity and connectivity between amnestic MCI (aMCI) and nonamnestic MCI (naMCI). The results showed that both aMCI and naMCI patients exhibited abnormal brain activity and connectivity. The variability in dALFF, dReHo, and hippocampal dFC was different between aMCI and naMCI patients and was associated with cognitive scores. The dReHo of the superior parietal lobule and dFC of the hippocampus-cerebellum contributed to the memory heterogeneity of MCI subtypes.

Temporal dynamic changes of intrinsic brain activity in Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment patients: a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging study

Ting Li et al.

Summary: This study explored dynamic brain activity in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using dALFF and dfALFF metrics, finding that AD patients showed increased dALFF variability in the cerebellar posterior and temporal lobes compared to healthy controls. These findings suggest a potential insight into the neurophysiological mechanisms of AD based on functional magnetic resonance imaging data.

Aberrant Amplitude of Low-Frequency Fluctuation and Degree Centrality within the Default Mode Network in Patients with Vascular Mild Cognitive Impairment

Haoyuan Li et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with VaMCI scored lower on MoCA and higher on HAMA and HAMD, showing GM atrophy and decreased brain activity in the DMN. The results suggest that aberrant brain activity in the DMN may serve as a potential biomarker of VaMCI.
