Absolute Resting13N-Ammonia PET Myocardial Blood Flow for Predicting Myocardial Viability and Recovery of Ventricular Function after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Jiao Wang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using dynamic 13N-Ammonia PET to quantify resting myocardial blood flow (rMBF) for identifying myocardial viability and predicting improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The results showed that rMBF can be used as a supplement to assess the presence of viable myocardium and predict potential improvement of LVEF after CABG.

Summary: This study presents the design and realization of a myocardial perfusion phantom, and the initial performance testing of the phantom setup using dynamic single photon emission computed tomography. The results indicate that the phantom can fulfill the clinical need for validation of multimodal, absolute MPI applications.

Summary: The study investigated the use of PET to predict myocardial viability by measuring myocardial blood flow and washout, finding that NH3 PET parameters have low to moderate diagnostic performance for predicting viability in ischemic cardiomyopathy, and proposing a safe method for viability testing.

Maria Gronman et al.

Summary: Assessment of myocardial viability in a pig model of myocardial infarction showed that reduced resting MBF, PTF, and PTI based on [O-15]water PET perfusion imaging are useful for detecting viable myocardium, with cut-off values of >= 67% for relative MBF and >= 66% for PTF resulting in high accuracies of 90% and 81%, respectively.

Reliability and Reproducibility of Absolute Myocardial Blood Flow: Does It Depend on the PET/CT Technology, the Vasodilator, and/or the Software?

K. Lance Gould et al.

Summary: Recent studies suggest that comprehensive, integrated quantification of myocardial perfusion may be the key to reducing mortality through revascularization in non-acute coronary artery disease. The lack of benefit from revascularization may be attributed to a narrow focus on individual aspects of coronary characteristics rather than considering all quantitative perfusion metrics per regional pixel.

Mortality Prediction by Quantitative PET Perfusion Expressed as Coronary Flow Capacity With and Without Revascularization

K. Lance Gould et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between reduced quantitative perfusion parameters and mortality with and without revascularization. It found that severely reduced CFR and stress perfusion incurred increasing size-dependent risks, with severely reduced CFC associated with the highest major adverse cardiac event rate and mortality risk. Small regions of CFCsevere predicted high risk due to border zones at risk around the severe center, and this risk could be reduced by revascularization.
