Age-matched control or age-specific template, which is essential for voxel-wise analysis of cerebral metabolism abnormality in pediatric patients with epilepsy?

Yuankai Zhu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of age-matched control and age-specific template on voxel-wise analysis of brain F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-18-FDG PET) data in pediatric epilepsy patients. Sex differences in the progression of glucose metabolism dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease

Jong-Chan Park et al.

Summary: A study in South Korea found that females with Alzheimer's disease showed impaired glucose metabolism, which could help explain why the disease is more common in females. Another study identified 25 female-specific genes involved in glucose metabolism in patients from Europe and Singapore. These findings have the potential to improve diagnosis and intervention strategies for Alzheimer's disease.

Exploring brain glucose metabolic patterns in cognitively normal adults at risk of Alzheimer's disease: A cross-validation study with Chinese and ADNI cohorts

Tao-Ran Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore and validate disease-related metabolic brain patterns in cognitively normal controls within the Alzheimer's continuum. Using PET imaging, a at-risk AD-related metabolic pattern (ARADRP) was identified and compared between groups, showing potential utility in discriminating A beta+ NCs from A beta- NCs. Cross-validation and correlation analyses further supported the robustness and clinical relevance of the findings.

Mental health among patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma: A Danish nationwide study of psychotropic drug use in 8750 patients and 43 750 matched comparators

Andreas Kiesbye Ovlisen et al.

Summary: Psychological distress post-cancer diagnosis may result in mental health complications such as depression and anxiety. This study found that non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) patients had a higher risk of using psychotropic drugs, especially those with aggressive subtypes. Additionally, NHL patients also had a slightly higher risk of suicide/self-harm.

Persistent symptoms of fatigue, neuropathy and role-functioning impairment among indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivors: A longitudinal PROFILES registry study

Afke Ekels et al.

Summary: This large population-based longitudinal study investigates the long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and persistence of symptoms among patients with indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (iNHL). The study found that up to a third of iNHL patients experience long-term persistent symptoms which do not improve over time. Younger age, lower education level, comorbidities, and psychological distress were associated with worse outcomes.

Taking stock of value in the orbitofrontal cortex

Eric B. Knudsen et al.

Summary: Previous studies suggested that the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) plays a central role in optimal decision-making by signaling values associated with different choices. However, new data indicate that the OFC may have a broader role in cognition by representing cognitive maps that guide behavior.

Temporal Dynamics of Resting-state Functional Networks and Cognitive Functioning following Systemic Treatment for Breast Cancer

Maryse J. Luijendijk et al.

Summary: Many women with breast cancer experience cognitive decline, especially in memory and executive function, after receiving chemotherapy. This study investigated the association between changes in dynamic functional connectivity and changes in memory and executive function in breast cancer patients. The findings suggest that cancer and chemotherapy alter the role of dynamic functional connectivity in memory function.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in regional brain glucose metabolism between DLBCL patients treated with chemotherapy and controls using PET/CT scanning. The results showed that DLBCL patients had altered glucose metabolism in certain brain regions compared to controls. These findings improve our understanding of the impact of chemotherapy on brain function in DLBCL patients.

Yuankai Zhu et al.

Summary: This study explored the glucose metabolic profile of extrapyramidal system in patients with crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD) and investigated the metabolic connectivities in cortico-ponto-cerebellar and cortico-rubral pathways associated with CCD. The results revealed that CCD+ patients had significantly lower asymmetry index (AI) in corticoponto-cerebellar and cortico-rubral pathways compared to CCD- patients and the control group. Additionally, AI in contralateral cerebellum exterior cortex was positively correlated with several brain regions among CCD+ patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
