Differences of EEG Frequency and Spatial Parameters in Depressive Female Adolescents With Suicidal Attempts and Non-suicidal Self-injuries

Andrey F. Iznak et al.

Summary: This study found differences in EEG frequency and spatial parameters between depressive female adolescents with solely NSSI and those with combined NSSI + SA behavior, indicating different levels of activation and distribution of EEG frequency components. These differences can help clarify the degree of suicidal risk in depressive female adolescents with NSSI.

Resting posterior alpha power and adolescent major depressive disorder

Akina Umemoto et al.

Summary: This study found that depressed adolescents exhibited significantly larger posterior alpha over the right hemisphere compared to the left hemisphere, while healthy adolescents showed no hemispheric differences. The greater alpha activity over the right hemisphere correlated with depression symptoms, anhedonia symptoms, rumination, and self-criticism. Depressed adolescents had reduced overall posterior alpha compared to healthy youth, suggesting that resting posterior alpha may be a promising neurophysiological index of adolescent depression.
