The Possibility of Using Waste Biomass from Selected Plants Cultivated for Industrial Purposes to Produce a Renewable and Sustainable Source of Energy

Milosz Zardzewialy et al.

Summary: This article presents the research results on the use of waste biomass from agricultural production for the production of pellets. Different types of biomass, including sunflower, tobacco, Jerusalem artichoke, and coniferous sawdust, were tested. The study found that pellets made from Jerusalem artichoke biomass were the most resistant to mechanical damage and pellets made from tobacco stalks had the lowest emissions of nitrogen oxides. These findings suggest that waste biomass from agricultural production can be a suitable raw material for pellet production for both industrial and non-industrial purposes.

Composting Processes for Agricultural Waste Management: A Comprehensive Review

Muhammad Waqas et al.

Summary: Composting is a versatile and effective method for managing biodegradable solid wastes, especially in developing countries like Pakistan. Compared to other waste management practices, composting is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for agricultural waste disposal, reducing pollution and water contamination. This critical review investigates various conventional and emerging composting processes for different types of waste and highlights recent developments in composting for agricultural waste management.

An overview of nitrogen oxides emissions from biomass combustion for domestic heat production

S. Ozgen et al.

Summary: To meet the climate and energy objectives of the European Union, the heating and cooling sector needs to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. Solid biomass is seen as a renewable and carbon-neutral alternative, but there are concerns about its impact on air quality when burned in small-scale domestic appliances, particularly in terms of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides emissions. The focus of this study is to review the literature on nitrogen oxides emissions from these sources, discussing formation mechanisms, control techniques, and the influence of fuel composition and operating conditions gathered from experimental data.

Densification of Wood-Influence on Mechanical and Chemical Properties when 11 Naturally Occurring Substances in Wood Are Mixed with Beech and Pine

Stefan Frodeson et al.

Summary: The study found that adding substances like xylan and galactan to pellets can increase their hardness, while the addition of extractives has a greater impact on pine hardness. FT-IR data could not provide clear explanations for changes in hardness, but it did indicate that biomass residues rich in xylan and galactan can improve pellet quality.
