Vegetation Classification in Urban Areas by Combining UAV-Based NDVI and Thermal Infrared Image

Geunsang Lee et al.

Summary: Vegetation has become crucial for decision-making in urban regeneration, urban planning, environment, and landscaping. In the past, vegetation index was calculated using images from Landsat satellite's TM or ETM+ sensor. Recently, a technology utilizing UAV-based multispectral images has been developed for more accurate and faster vegetation information. NDVI, a widely used method, calculates the vegetation index by combining red and near-infrared bands. However, it faces issues when classifying areas with urethane-coated surfaces such as basketball courts and waterproof coating roofs.

Quantification of the Effective Detectable Period for Concrete Voids of CLP by Lock-In Thermography

Chunyoung Kim et al.

Summary: This study uses lock-in thermography (LIT) inspection technology to inspect voids between the concrete containment building and the containment liner plate (CLP) in light-water reactor type nuclear power plants. A finite element method (FEM) model with concrete voids is created to simulate the thermal distribution change of the CLP surface under various LIT inspection conditions. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) analysis is conducted based on simulated temperature distribution image and amplitude and phase images calculated by the four-point method. The study concludes that the effective detectable period (EDP) varies based on the size of the voids.

A Hybrid Retina Net Classifier for Thermal Imaging

Ventrapragada Teju et al.

Summary: Thermal imaging is an advanced technology that can detect objects in various environmental conditions without the need for light. It is widely used in border security and other sectors to detect potential risks. However, object detection and classification using thermal imaging are challenging. This paper introduces a one-stage deep convolution network-based object detection and classification method called retina net, which focuses on detecting and identifying objects from thermal images and surveillance data, instead of relying on infrared information obtained from the objects.
