Experimental analysis of CO2 reduction using low surface area carbon beads (CB) and Ca/CB catalyst by thermocatalytic gasification for fuel gas production

Devarajan Vishnu Prasanna et al.

Summary: This work synthesized calcium oxide-loaded carbon beads (CaO/CB) using wet impregnation, drying, and calcination processes. The obtained Ca/CB catalyst was used to convert CO2 to CO as a fuel gas. The study found that Ca/CB has higher gasification activity than non-catalysed CB for CO2 reduction.

Effects of SiC whisker addition on mechanical, thermal, and permeability properties of porous silica-bonded SiC ceramics

Maria Dolores Sosa Lucio et al.

Summary: The addition of 33 wt% SiC whisker into the nano-SiC powder-carbon black template mixture increased the flexural strength, thermal conductivity, and specific flow rate of porous silica-bonded SiC ceramics by 35%, 133%, and 266% respectively. This enhancement was primarily attributed to the reinforcement effect and easy heat conduction path provided by the SiC whiskers.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using reticulated porous Zirconia-toughened Alumina (ZTA) in applications such as dielectric barriers, insulators, and filters. The compressive strength of the ZTA specimens is enhanced by optimizing the composition and viscosity of the ZTA slurry. The results show that the compressive strength of the reticulated porous ZTA specimens can be increased from 0.37 MPa to 3.11 MPa.

The effect of particle size distribution on the microstructure and properties of Al2O3 ceramics formed by stereolithography

Chuchu Qian et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of particle size distribution on SL-manufactured alumina ceramics, revealing that finer particle sizes have a greater impact on sintering degree, flexural strength, and porosity. The difference in particle size distribution had a significant influence on the properties when reaching a 10-fold difference.

Summary: Alumina mold materials prepared by stereolithography exhibit significant sintering shrinkage, with properties related to casting rarely studied. This study investigates the effects of particle size distribution and sintering temperature on these materials, finding that factors such as fine powder fraction impact viscosity, curing behaviors, and sintering shrinkage.Optimal sintering temperature is determined to be 1550 degrees C, with specimens prepared with a 0.1 fraction of fine powder showing the best creep resistance and mechanical properties.

Discrete element modeling of particles sphericity effect on sand direct shear performance

Chunhui Chen et al.

Summary: Particle surface morphology plays a vital role in sand structure and mechanical properties. This study investigates the influence of sand particle sphericity on sand direct shear performance using the discrete element method (DEM). The findings show that irregular sand exhibits higher shear strength at lower normal stress compared to round particles. The shape of the particles has less impact on shear strength at higher normal stress. Irregular sand leads to an increase in shear band proportion, but it is not related to sphericity. Particles within the shear band have a larger average rotation angle than those outside the shear band. When the particle shape approaches round, the average rotation angle increases while the coordinate number and contact anisotropy decrease.

Microfluidic fabrication of ZrO2 microspheres using improved external gelation aided by polyacrylamide networks

Shuaishuai Liang et al.

Summary: The use of a polyacrylamide (PAM) gel network in the external gelation process successfully prevented deformation of microdroplets, allowing for the production of dense ZrO2 microspheres with high monodispersity and sphericity. The assistance of the PAM network made the external gelation process less sensitive to environmental factors, enabling the use of higher triggering agent concentrations and faster production of ZrO2 ceramic microspheres.
