Damping Ratio of Sand Containing Fine Particles in Cyclic Triaxial Liquefaction Tests

Jiajing Zhao et al.

Summary: Sand liquefaction triggered by earthquakes is a destructive geological disaster that has become a fascinating topic in earthquake engineering. Research has focused on the influence of fine particles on the liquefaction potential of sand, but the relationship between the fine particle content and the cyclic degradation in the liquefaction process is still unclear.

Effect of silt/clay content on shear wave velocity in the Yellow River Delta (China), based on the cone penetration test (CPT)

Zhongnian Yang et al.

Summary: The Yellow River Delta is renowned for its fine-grained silt which exhibits both cohesive and non-cohesive properties. A study was conducted to refine the definition of fine content and establish models for silt and clay content, as well as investigate the relationship between these contents and shear wave velocity. The results suggest that the boundary between silt and clay content can be clearly distinguished and models were developed to calculate V-s based on the silt and clay contents.

Static liquefaction behaviour of gold mine tailings

Guillermo A. Riveros et al.

Summary: This study examines the shearing response and instability of gold tailings through a series of tests, finding that specimen fabric differences produced by different preparation methods do not translate into significant differences in shearing response and strength. Despite variations in fines content, common trends of undrained yield and post-liquefaction strength ratios were observed for both sand and silt tailings. An empirical method using shear wave velocity to evaluate the onset of instability and post-liquefaction strength of tailings is proposed.
