Monitoring In Vitro Extracellular Matrix Protein Conformations in the Presence of Biomimetic Bone-Regeneration Scaffolds Using Functionalized Gold-Edge-Coated Triangular Silver Nanoparticles

Laura G. Rodriguez G. Barroso et al.

Summary: In the presence of high noise levels in the cellular environment, the use of gold edge-coated triangular silver nanoparticles (AuTSNP) as a tool to monitor protein conformational transitions and activity has been validated. The AuTSNP-based tests showed the ability to sense protein interactions over time using local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) technique.

Recent Advances in Nanoparticle-Based Optical Sensors for Detection of Pesticide Residues in Soil

Chunhong Zhang et al.

Summary: The excessive use of pesticides has had a negative impact on the environment and human health, causing the accumulation of pesticide residues in soil. Nanoparticle-based sensors offer advantages over traditional spectrophotometry methods, with their simplicity of operation, high sensitivity, and low detection limits. This review focuses on the functions of various nanoparticles and their applications in detecting pesticide residues in soil, covering topics such as color change, Raman enhancement, fluorescence enhancement and quenching, and catalysis. Various methodologies for detecting insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides in soil using nanoparticles are also systematically reviewed.

The Role of Silver Nanoparticles in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer: Are There Any Perspectives for the Future?

Peter Takac et al.

Summary: Cancer is a complex and fatal disease. Traditional chemotherapy often fails due to lack of specificity, cytotoxicity, and multidrug resistance. As a result, nano-oncology has emerged as a modern field to utilize nanoparticles (NPs) for cancer detection, targeting, and treatment. NPs offer a targeted approach with reduced side effects and have shown good pharmacokinetics, precise targeting, and reduced multidrug resistance. They induce various anticancer mechanisms such as ROS production, cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, ER stress activation, and modulation of signaling pathways. In addition, NPs inhibit tumor growth in vivo and have potential for cancer diagnosis.

Self-Assembly Silver Nanoparticles Decorated on Gold Nanoislands for Label-Free Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensing

Linlin Liu et al.

Summary: A nanostructure of self-assembly silver nanoparticles decorated on gold nanoislands (SAM Ag@AuNIs) is proposed as a sensitive sensing medium for localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) biosensing applications. The experimental and computational results indicate that the nanostructure can achieve site-specific functionalization of biomolecules and improve sensitivity through a coupling effect.

Synthesis and Analysis of Polymorphic Silver Nanoparticles and Their Incorporation into the Polymer Matrix

Oksana Velgosova et al.

Summary: A chemical method was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles of various shapes. The shape of the nanoparticles affects the color of the colloid, and the ratio between precursor, reducing, and stabilizing agents is crucial for nanoparticle formation. The shape and size of AgNPs change over time, leading to a dichroic effect.

Enhanced Antimicrobial Activity of Biocompatible Bacterial Cellulose Films via Dual Synergistic Action of Curcumin and Triangular Silver Nanoplates

Eduardo Lanzagorta Garcia et al.

Summary: Curcumin and triangular silver nanoplates (TSNP) incorporated bacterial cellulose (BC) films are highly effective antimicrobial materials with low toxicity. These films inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus without causing significant harm to human cells and model organisms. The combination of curcumin and TSNP with BC has great potential for clinical applications.
