Semi-Analytical Solution for the Vertical Vibration of a Single Pile Embedded in a Frozen Poroelastic Half-Space

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: The theory of vertical pile vibration is essential for determining pile integrity and conducting dynamic analysis. When the surrounding soil is frozen, the characteristics of pile vibration are inevitably affected. This study investigates the vibration of piles in a saturated frozen porous medium, by establishing an analytical model based on the theory of composite saturated porous media. The results of the parametric study show that factors such as pile bottom stiffness, freezing temperature, and shear modulus of the unfrozen soil significantly influence the dynamic responses of vertical pile vibration.

Semi-analytical solution for negative skin friction development on deep foundations in coastal reclamation areas

Wenbing Wu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a semi-analytical solution to predict the development of negative skin friction on piles caused by the consolidation of newly filled soil in the reclamation area. By coupling one-dimensional and two-dimensional consolidation models and utilizing the load-transfer method, the negative skin friction is calculated. The developed model is validated through field tests and finite element method. Parametric study shows that the installation time, surcharge load, consolidation time, and pile head load greatly affect the negative skin friction.

Analytical solutions of the tunnels under the fault creeping by elastic foundation beam model with considering tangential interaction

Mi Zhao et al.

Summary: A study developed an analytical solution for the response of tunnels under fault zone creeping, taking into account the normal and tangential interaction between the tunnel and the ground. The solution was based on an elastic foundation beam model, where the normal interaction was considered by applying displacements of the free field on the distal end of normal foundation springs, and the tangential interaction was transformed into bending moment applied on the beam. Numerical solutions from a 3D finite element model were used to verify the validity of the proposed analytical solutions. The effects of fault zone width, elastic modulus of the fault, and concrete's grade of the lining on the tunnel's internal force were also investigated.

Appraisal of the hypoplastic model for the numerical prediction of high-rise building settlement in Neogene clay based on real-scale monitoring data

Zuzana Gallikova et al.

Summary: This article presents the settlement analysis using finite element modeling of two high-rise buildings founded on stiff raft foundations in Neogene clay. The results show that the predictions of settlement using the hypoplastic model are equitable to the actual values, given proper calibration and consideration of certain parameters. The optimization of intergranular strain parameters reveals their influence on different deformation phases, and the hypoplastic model proves to be more reliable and valuable compared to other models for numerical analysis of subsoil deformation.

Analytical solution for stress and displacement of a finite thickness soil layer subjected to strip footing

Min Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the stress and displacement in an elastic soil layer with a shallow-buried strip footing. The analytical solutions for stress and displacement in the soil layer are obtained using conformal transformation and complex variable method, and compared with numerical results. The influence of different displacement boundary conditions and soil thickness on the stresses in the soil layer is also analyzed.

An analytical solution of a horizontally vibrating pile considering water-pile-soil interaction on viscoelastic half-space

Yiming Huang et al.

Summary: The water-pile-soil model on viscoelastic half-space is developed to study the dynamic responses of an end-bearing pile under horizontal dynamic loads. The displacement response of the pile is obtained by solving the pile-soil and pile-water systems separately. The present solution is compared with numerical method and can be applied to evaluate the relationships between water and pile-soil parameters in the design of offshore cast-in-place piles, with a focus on the influence of the soil viscoelastic half-space shear modulus.

Numerical Analysis of Piled-Raft Foundations on Multi-Layer Soil Considering Settlement and Swelling

Muhammad Rehan Hakro et al.

Summary: This study utilized numerical modelling to investigate the settlement, swelling, and structural behavior of piled-raft foundations under different soil profiles, load combinations, and geometry conditions. The Mohr-Coulomb model was used to simulate soil behavior, and field and laboratory testing were conducted to determine the necessary soil parameters. The study found that piled raft foundations increase the load carrying capacity of soft soil and reduce settlement. The effects of pile size, soil properties, and pile-soil interaction on settlement were also discussed.

An analytical solution of a horizontally vibrating pile considering water-pile-soil interaction on viscoelastic half-space

Yiming Huang et al.

Summary: The study developed a water-pile-soil model to investigate the dynamic responses of an endbearing pile subjected to horizontal dynamic loads in a viscoelastic half-space. The results suggest that it is necessary to consider the influence of the viscoelastic half-space on the pile end soil when designing offshore cast-in-place piles.
