Pilot Maneuvering Performance Analysis and Evaluation with Deep Learning

Shiwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Quick Access Recorder (QAR) data have long been used for pilot performance evaluation. Traditional methods suffer from the inability to consider multiple parameters simultaneously and require manual feature selection. To address this issue, this paper proposes a 1-D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) that integrates QAR metrics to study the relationship between QAR data and pilot performance. The results show that the 1-D CNN improves the prediction accuracy of pilot skill levels by 5 and achieves a 78.18% accuracy on a binary classification problem. Additionally, factor analysis is used to group the indicators into 5 common factors, each playing a different role in pilot performance evaluation.

A Hybrid Model for Evaluating the Outcomes of Student Pilots within the Didactic System of Aviation Education

Miroslav Kelemen et al.

Summary: The international community is focused on addressing the global issue of pilot shortage in aviation while maintaining the quality of their education. This study aims to develop a hybrid expert model to evaluate student (pilot) outcomes and risks in order to improve the quality of individual results in aviation education. The model is based on modern cognitive knowledge analysis theory, fuzzy set theory, and a systems approach. By analyzing data from 696 individual results of undergraduate students (pilots) in aviation education from 2005 to 2022, the applicability of the model was demonstrated.

Risk prediction and early warning of pilots' unsafe behaviors using association rule mining and system dynamics

Qin Xiao et al.

Summary: The risk prediction of pilots' unsafe behaviors is significant for preventing aviation incidents. However, there is a lack of effective methods to deal with this problem. This study proposes a hybrid approach combining association rule mining (ARM) and system dynamics (SD) model for predicting and warning pilots' unsafe behaviors. The results show that there are 48 risk factors and 142 key association rules impacting pilots' unsafe behaviors. Environmental influences, pilots' adverse states, and organizational influences are strongly related to unsafe behaviors. The results also indicate the fluctuation and different levels of risk in pilots' unsafe behaviors. The score is 8 out of 10.

A novel method for the performance evaluation of institutionalized collaborative innovation using an improved G1-CRITIC comprehensive evaluation model

Feng Ye et al.

Summary: Collaborative innovation in universities is an important way to leverage knowledge accumulation, but constructing an evaluation method and system is a key challenge due to multiple party participants and various data indicators. This study proposes a performance evaluation method based on an improved order relation analysis, CRITIC, and TOPSIS for collaborative innovation, and designs an evaluation system for university collaborative innovation. Empirical analysis shows that the proposed evaluation method can objectively and effectively evaluate the performance of collaborative innovation centers.

Guido Perboli et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the human factors as the main causes of aviation accidents, and proposes a machine learning approach using natural language processing technology to identify human factors. Results from testing on real accidents demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the method, estimating a reduction of at least 30% in the time needed for human factors identification compared to standard methods.
