Neodymium-Evoked Valence Electronic Modulation to Balance Reversible Oxygen Electrocatalysis

Chuang Fan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel and effective strategy utilizing neodymium-evoked valence electronic perturbation to enhance and balance the reversible oxygen electrocatalysis of metallic cobalt sites. By preparing a Nd-doped metal-organic framework and an N-doped carbon substrate, a catalyst with excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic properties is achieved. This catalyst exhibits low overpotential and high half-wave potential for both oxygen evolution reaction and oxygen reduction reaction, as well as good catalytic stability and electrochemical performance.

Spin-Selective Coupling in Mott-Schottky Er2O3-Co Boosts Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: A Mott-Schottky catalyst consisting of Er2O3-Co particles implanted into carbon nanofibers (Er2O3-Co/CNF) is designed to enhance alkaline oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via spin-selective coupling. The optimized Er2O3-Co/CNF shows improved ORR performance compared to individual Co/CNF and Er2O3/CNF. The introduction of Er2O3 optimizes the electronic structure of Co through gradient orbital coupling, resulting in significantly enhanced ORR performance. This work provides new perspectives for the design of efficient ORR electrocatalysts by engineering spin-selective coupling induced by rare-earth oxides.

Tailoring the Electronic Structure of an Atomically Dispersed Zinc Electrocatalyst: Coordination Environment Regulation for High Selectivity Oxygen Reduction

Yaling Jia et al.

Summary: Accurately regulating the selectivity of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) by tailoring the coordination environment of atomically dispersed Zn sites can achieve high selectivity, with ZnO3C catalyst processing a 2 e(-) ORR pathway for H2O2 generation in 0.1 M KOH. This is attributed to the decreased electron density around Zn in ZnO3C which changes the intermediate adsorption and contributes to the high selectivity towards 2 e(-) ORR.

Insight into the Mechanism of Axial Ligands Regulating the Catalytic Activity of Fe-N4 Sites for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Kuang-Min Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of axial ligands on the ORR catalytic activity of Fe-N-4 by using poly(iron phthalocyanine) as a model electrocatalyst. It reveals that the ORR activity of Fe-N-4 sites can be regulated by tuning the field strength of the axial ligands, and it is related to the energy level gap between OH p(x)p(y) and Fe 3dz2.

Tianyu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a single-atom catalyst consisting of zinc atoms anchored on a two-dimensional nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheet was constructed for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Both experimental and theoretical analyses revealed that the catalyst exhibited high intrinsic activity due to the unique electronic properties of the zinc atoms. Compared to three-dimensional structures, the use of a two-dimensional carbon nanosheet increased the exposure of active sites and facilitated electron transport, resulting in enhanced ORR performance.
