Liquid-Phase Synthesis of Highly Deformable and Air-Stable Sn-Substituted Li3PS4 for All-Solid-State Batteries Fabricated and Operated under Low Pressures

Jehoon Woo et al.

Summary: The liquid-phase synthesis of sulfide solid electrolytes shows potential for mass production of all-solid-state Li batteries. However, the accessible compositions are mostly metal-free and suffer from high electronic conductivity due to carbon impurities, resulting in below-par performance. This study reports the liquid-phase synthesis of highly deformable and air-stable Li3+xP1-xSnxS4 electrolyte. The LS-SEs show remarkable enhancement in deformability and outperform conventional solid-state-synthesized SEs.

Zachary D. Hood et al.

Summary: Sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) have high ionic conductivity and favorable mechanical properties, making them promising for next-generation solid-state batteries. Thin Al2O3 coatings grown on Li6PS5Cl powders using atomic layer deposition simultaneously address the stability issues and improve cell performance. These coated powders exhibit higher ionic conductivities, lower electronic conductivities, and improved stability at the Li-SSE interface, leading to significantly improved battery cycle life.

Organic-Additive-Derived Cathode Electrolyte Interphase Layer Mitigating Intertwined Chemical and Mechanical Degradation for Sulfide-Based Solid-State Batteries

Chanhyun Park et al.

Summary: Maintaining the integrity of the electrode-electrolyte interface is crucial for achieving longer cycle lives in solid-state batteries (SSBs). In this study, organic electrolyte additives are used in the cathode electrolyte interphase (CEI) layer to mitigate chemical and mechanical degradation in sulfide-based SSBs. The CEI layer derived from lithium difluorobis(oxalato)phosphate (LiDFBOP) exhibits dual functions by retarding chemical degradation at high charging potential and maintaining physical contact at low stack pressure. This research provides new perspectives and strategies for designing cathode coating materials in sulfide-based SSBs.

Enhancing Moisture Stability of Sulfide Solid-State Electrolytes by Reversible Amphipathic Molecular Coating

Zhaoxin Yu et al.

Summary: The all-solid-state battery (ASSB) is a promising energy storage technology for consumer electronics and electric vehicles. However, the poor moisture stability of sulfide solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) has hindered their mass production and application. In this study, a reversible surface coating strategy using amphipathic organic molecules is proposed to enhance the moisture stability of SSEs. This finding provides a new pathway for the deployment of moisture-sensitive SSEs and other energy materials.

Summary: A novel fluorescent covalent organic framework COF-TMS was designed and prepared via the Povarov reaction for detecting fluorine ions. The electronic state of COF-TMS changed due to the replacement of trimethyl silicon with hydrogen atom, resulting in a noticeable fluorescence color change. The structure and optical property of COF-TMS remained unchanged in the presence of various anions, while the crystallinity significantly improved.
