Exploration and insights into the cellular internalization and intracellular fate of amphiphilic polymeric nanocarriers

Samrat Mazumdar et al.

Summary: The beneficial or deleterious effects of nanomedicines are influenced by their complex interactions with intracellular pathways and their subcellular fate. Manipulating the physicochemical attributes of nanocarriers can direct nanoparticles towards specific sub-cellular organelles, affecting cellular internalization and enhancing intracellular uptake via specific endocytic pathways.

Gut Microbe-Derived Outer Membrane Vesicles: A Potential Platform to Control Cecal Load of Campylobacter jejuni

Ankita Singh et al.

Summary: Acute diarrheal illness and gastroenteritis caused by Campylobacter jejuni infection are significant public health risks, especially in children under five in developing countries. Limited genetic diversity among Campylobacter jejuni and understanding of host immunity are obstacles to developing effective measures to control infection. Utilizing bacterial outer-membrane vesicles as vaccine targets shows promise in inducing specific immune responses against Campylobacter jejuni.

Outer Membrane Vesicles of Vibrio cholerae Protect and Deliver Active Cholera Toxin to Host Cells via Porin-Dependent Uptake

Franz G. Zingl et al.

Summary: Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) play a crucial role in the delivery and protection of bioactive substances such as cholera toxin, facilitating their uptake by intestinal cells. OMVs produced by V. cholerae can carry cholera toxin to host intestinal cells via endocytosis mediated by specific outer membrane porins, and the toxin remains active in the presence of intestinal proteases due to protection by OMVs. This extended half-life of vesicle-associated cholera toxin may allow it to target distant host cells within the intestinal tract.

Bioinformatic Analysis of the Campylobacter jejuni Type VI Secretion System and Effector Prediction

Luca Robinson et al.

Summary: The Type VI Secretion System (T6SS) plays crucial roles in bacterial antagonism, subversion of host cells, and niche colonisation. A unique and conserved T6SS cluster associated with Campylobacter jejuni Integrated Element 3 (CJIE3) was identified as Campylobacter jejuni Pathogenicity Island-1 (CJPI-1), which contains canonical VgrG homologues and a Type II toxin-antitoxin module.
