A 313 plastome phylogenomic analysis of Pooideae: Exploring relationships among the largest subfamily of grasses

Summary: This study analyzed 313 plastid genomes of Poaceae, focusing on the relationships among the subfamily Pooideae. Results showed that including alignment gaps in plastome analyses can lead to incorrect interpretations of complex relationships among taxa. The recommendation is to strip alignment columns of all gaps in large-scale plastome datasets to increase pairwise identity.
