Interface engineering of the NiCo2O4@MoS2/TM heterostructure to realize the efficient alkaline oxygen evolution reaction

Weiwei Bao et al.

Summary: In this study, a heterostructure oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst was fabricated by combining MoS2 nanosheets with NiCo2O4 hollow spheres on a titanium mesh. Due to the heterogeneous nanointerface between NiCo2O4 and MoS2, this electrocatalyst exhibited excellent OER activity in a basic environment with overpotentials of 313 and 380 mV achieving 10 and 100 mA cm(-2), respectively. The outstanding catalytic performance can be attributed to the hollow nanostructure and interfacial engineering strategy that enhance intrinsic activity and provide faster charge transfer. Therefore, this work provides a feasible path for the development of highly efficient catalysts.

A facile ion-conversion-exchange strategy for designing nitrogen-doped CoMoO4@Co3O4 double-shell nanoboxs: A competitive candidate for supercapacitor and oxygen evolution reaction

Wenzhi Zhang et al.

Summary: Co3O4 has attracted much attention in the field of supercapacitors and oxygen evolution reaction due to its high theoretical specific capacitance, abundance, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. However, its commercial application is limited by poor electrical conductivity and inferior active sites. In this study, N-CoMoO4@Co3O4 double-shell nanoboxes were successfully prepared, exhibiting superior specific capacitance, favorable charge/discharge rate, remarkable cycling stability, and desirable overpotential and Tafel slope for oxygen evolution reaction. This work provides theoretical guidance for designing efficient dual-function electrocatalysts.

Excess Activity Tuned by Distorted Tetrahedron in CoMoO4 for Oxygen Evolution

Hengbo Xiao et al.

Summary: Oxygen vacancies in transition metal oxides can be used to modulate surface reconstruction for enhancing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this study, oxygen vacancies were specifically localized within MoO4 tetrahedrons rather than CoO6 octahedrons in the CoMoO4 catalyst, resulting in the coherent reconstruction of CoO6 octahedrons into pure CoOOH with tunable OER activities. The manipulated distorted polyhedrons facilitated the complete transformation of CoO6 octahedrons into pure CoOOH at lower potentials, leading to a significantly improved intrinsic activity for OER.

Sulfur vacancies engineered self-supported Co3S4 nanoflowers as an efficient bifunctional catalyst for electrochemical water splitting

Qing Wang et al.

Summary: Optimizing electron distribution and expediting electron transfer efficiency are two major strategies in developing non-noble difunctional catalysts for overall water splitting. Introducing vacancy defects into the crystal structure can enhance the electrocatalytic water splitting performance. This study synthesized 3D spinel-structured Co3O4 or Co3S4 nanoflowers with anion vacancy on nickel foam, and compared their performance as electrodes for both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The results showed that the Vs-Co3S4@NF electrode exhibited excellent catalytic activity in alkaline electrolyte, requiring low overpotentials for both OER and HER.
