Polarization-sensitive multi-frequency switches and high-performance slow light based on quadruple plasmon-induced transparency in a patterned graphene-based terahertz metamaterial

Yuhui Li et al.

Summary: A periodic patterned graphene-based terahertz metamaterial with three transverse graphene strips and one longitudinal continuous graphene ribbon is proposed to achieve a dynamically tunable quadruple plasmon-induced transparence (PIT) effect. The magnetic field distribution along the x-direction leads to the destructive interference between the bright mode and the dark mode, resulting in the quadruple-PIT window. The numerical and theoretical analysis shows that the spectral response characteristics obtained by FDTD simulation and CMT calculation match well.

Graphene/Ge Photoconductive Position-Sensitive Detectors Based on the Charge Injection Effect

Genglin Li et al.

Summary: A position-sensitive detector (PSD) based on graphene/germanium (Ge) heterojunction architecture is proposed and demonstrated, which can amplify signals and accurately obtain the position information of infrared light spots invisible to human eyes. The experimental results show that the device exhibits fast response speed, high responsivity, and long detection distance, indicating the potential of the graphene/Ge heterojunction as an efficient platform for near-infrared light spot position sensing.

Cancer Diagnosis Using Terahertz-Graphene-Metasurface-Based Biosensor with Dual-Resonance Response

Chunjian Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, a graphene metasurface composed of an individual graphene ring and an H-shaped graphene structure was proposed. The graphene metasurface exhibited a dual-resonance response and its resonance frequency was strongly influenced by the geometrical parameters and carrier density of graphene. The sensing parameters of the graphene metasurface for breast cancer cells were investigated, and the results showed high theoretical sensitivity and figure of merit. This research opens up new possibilities for cancer diagnosis applications.

Abdullah M. Zaman et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the all-electronically controlled ultrafast manipulation of terahertz radiation in integrated metamaterial/graphene devices. By modifying the overall optical response of the incident terahertz E-field through electrostatic gating of graphene conductivity, amplitude, phase, and polarization of terahertz radiation can be modulated with GHz range of reconfiguration speed. The results have significant implications for next-generation wireless communication, quantum electronics, and ultrafast imaging.

Ultrafast Terahertz Self-Induced Absorption and Phase Modulation on a Graphene-Based Thin Film Absorber

Anastasios D. Koulouklidis et al.

Summary: In this study, a thin film graphene-based terahertz perfect absorbing device is presented, which allows modulation of absorption and phase characteristics through terahertz self-actions. The experimental results show significant absorption modulation and phase modulation when the device is illuminated with terahertz field strengths. Theoretical analysis reveals that the terahertz-induced heating of graphene's carriers is the main cause of the nonlinear response, and the ultrafast nature of the process is demonstrated.
