Platinum Cluster/Carbon Quantum Dots Derived Graphene Heterostructured Carbon Nanofibers for Efficient and Durable Solar-Driven Electrochemical Hydrogen Evolution

Xiaohan Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an efficient method to produce low-dimensional Pt/graphene-carbon nanofibers (CNFs)-based heterostructures for bias-free, highly efficient, and durable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The presence of graphene enhances the electronic conductivity of CNFs and supports the uniform growth of Pt clusters during HER. The electrode with low Pt loading exhibits remarkable mass activity of HER in both acidic and alkaline media, and the bias-free water splitting system coupled with a luminescent solar concentrator-coupled solar cell shows promising solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency.

Construction of Laminated Luminescent Solar Concentrator Smart Window Based on Thermoresponsive Polymer and Carbon Quantum Dots

Bing Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a thermoresponsive laminated LSC was created and used as a smart window. The smart window showed a good dynamic response to temperature and solar irradiation, allowing it to switch between transparent and opaque states. It had high transmittance in the transparent state and low transmittance in the opaque state, enabling energy saving.

Carbon Quantum Dots as Fluorescence Nanochemosensors for Selective Detection of Amino Acids

Nunzio Tuccitto et al.

Summary: Fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CDs) are used as fluorescent nanochemosensors for selectively detecting amino acids, with their fluorescence properties being strongly influenced by interactions with different amino acids at the surface. The discrimination capability is demonstrated through tensor rank decomposition of differences induced by surface reactions in excitation-emission maps and by a common machine learning approach based on artificial neural networks.

Summary: Carbon dots are attractive nanomaterials with ease of synthesis, biocompatibility, and superior optical properties. The electronic structure and optical transitions of CDs can be controlled and tuned through precursor selection, synthetic condition adjustment, and post-synthetic treatment. Recent progress has been made in the synthesis of CDs emitting in different colors, particularly in the methods allowing emission to longer wavelengths.

Effect of Micelle Encapsulation on Toxicity of CdSe/ZnS and Mn-Doped ZnSe Quantum Dots

Qirui Fan et al.

Summary: Quantum dots are promising candidates for bioimaging, biosensing, and therapeutic applications due to their optical properties, but the toxicity of conventional QDs containing heavy metals is a challenge. This study compared the toxicity of different types of QDs on cells and found that QDs synthesized without heavy metals or with thick protective layers showed reduced toxicity, making them suitable for bioimaging applications.

Semi-transparent luminescent solar concentrators based on plasmon-enhanced carbon dots

Xin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, plasmonic metal nanoparticles (NPs) were used to enhance the optical absorption and emission of carbon dots (Cdots) for improved performance of Cdot-based LSCs. By optimizing the addition of silver (Ag) NPs with silica shells, a 25% increase in optical efficiency (OE) was achieved in thin film Cdot-based LSCs, demonstrating the potential of plasmon-enhanced LSCs for future studies.
