Time-Resolved Formation and Operation Maps of Pd Catalysts Suggest a Key Role of Single Atom Centers in Cross-Coupling

Alexey S. Galushko et al.

Summary: A method for characterizing supported catalysts in a spatially localized manner has been proposed. This approach utilizes various microscopes to track the evolution of metal particles, including individual atoms, in catalytic reactions. By studying the behavior of palladium atoms and nanoparticles, it was discovered that single atoms leach out into solution and exhibit higher catalytic activity compared to surface nanoparticles. These findings challenge the assumption that the superior catalytic activity comes from the operation of single atomic catalytic centers on the surface of the support.

Ultra efficient 4-Nitrophenol reduction, dye degradation and Cr(VI) adsorption in the presence of phytochemical synthesized Ag/ZnO nanocomposite: A view towards sustainable chemistry

Muhammad Farooq et al.

Summary: In this study, silver-doped zinc oxide nanomaterials were synthesized using Capparis decidua plant extract as a natural reducing agent. The structural morphologies and applications of the nanomaterials were investigated using various analytical techniques. The results showed that Ag doping enhanced the photocatalytic potential of ZnO by limiting the drop back probability of electrons. Optimal experimental conditions, such as pH, catalyst dose, and contact time, were determined to maximize the catalytic activity. The synthesis of Ag/ZnO nanocomposite was found to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach.

Nickel and Palladium Catalysis: Stronger Demand than Ever

Victor M. Chernyshev et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the key similarities and differences between Pd and Ni in catalytic systems. Ni has higher reactivity and stability in oxidative addition or insertion reactions compared to Pd. Additionally, Ni can exist in various oxidation states, while Pd can easily form particle mixtures with different oxidation states. However, Ni systems are more sensitive to oxidizers and require higher catalyst loadings.

Comparative assessment of heterogeneous and homogeneous Suzuki-Miyaura catalytic reactions using bio-Profiles and bio-Factors

Evgeniy O. Pentsak et al.

Summary: Transition metals are crucial in fine organic synthesis, but their toxicity and environmental pollution have raised concerns. The comparison between supported catalysts and soluble metal complex catalysts revealed that supported catalysts have lower cytotoxicity, but their overall impact on the environment can vary depending on the preparation procedure and may have neglected biological effects. Both types of catalysts did not significantly contribute to the overall toxicity of the systems, while commonly ignored byproducts showed higher overall biological influence.

Fully exposed silver nanoparticles stabilized on pH-responsive lignin-reactors for enhanced 4-nitrophenol reduction

Wen-Zhe Xiao et al.

Summary: Lignin is used as a catalyst support for efficient reduction of 4-nitrophenol using silver nanoparticles embedded in or supported outside pre-hydrolyzed lignin. The phase transitions and morphology changes of the reactors are achieved based on lignin's pH responsiveness. The lignin-supported catalyst with fully exposed silver nanoparticles exhibits higher catalytic activity due to closer proximity to the reactants.
