Graphene Oxide Nanosurface Reduces Apoptotic Death of HCT116 Colon Carcinoma Cells Induced by Zirconium Trisulfide Nanoribbons

Victor V. Tatarskiy et al.

Summary: 2D ultrathin nanomaterials have significant potential in biomedicine, but their cytotoxicity and interactions with other materials are not well understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of graphene oxide (GO) nanolayers and ZrS3 nanoribbons on colon carcinoma cells and found that ZrS3 exhibited strong cytotoxicity while GO reduced its toxicity. This finding demonstrates the ability of graphene oxide to decrease the cytotoxicity of other nanomaterials, which is important in the development of biocompatible nanocoatings and theranostic nanostructures.

Carbon Nanomaterials (CNMs) in Cancer Therapy: A Database of CNM-Based Nanocarrier Systems

Hugh Mohan et al.

Summary: Carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) are a versatile class of materials that can be used to design effective anticancer systems. The first comprehensive review of CNM-based nanocarrier systems incorporating approved chemotherapy drugs is presented. A database of nearly 200 examples of these nanocarrier systems is compiled and analyzed. Graphene and graphene oxide (GO) are found to be the most commonly used CNMs, followed by carbon nanotubes and carbon dots. Antimicrotubule agents are the most common payload due to their compatibility with CNM surfaces. The identified systems and factors affecting their efficacy are discussed.

Evolving Trends in Nanofibers for Topical Delivery of Therapeutics in Skin Disorders

Yashika Tomar et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology has developed nanostructure-based drug delivery approaches, particularly nanofibers for topical delivery of therapeutics. Nanofibers, which are fabricated using various polymers, have unique structures and require a multimethod approach for studying their morphology and characterization parameters. They show potential as drug delivery carriers for various skin disorders, but large-scale production remains challenging. This review provides insights into the fabrication strategies, applications, clinical trials, and patents of nanofibers for different skin disorders, along with case studies for a better understanding.

3D Fabrication and Characterisation of Electrically Receptive PCL-Graphene Scaffolds for Bioengineered In Vitro Tissue Models

Mary Josephine McIvor et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed PCL scaffolds with graphene using 3D fabrication technology, and comprehensively characterized their properties. The addition of graphene was found to improve the hydrophilicity, bioactivity, and electroactivity of the scaffolds, with 1.5% and 3% graphene concentrations showing the most significant increase in cell proliferation.
