Spin pumping contribution to the magnetization damping in Tm3Fe5O12/W bilayers

A. B. Oliveira et al.

Summary: In this study, the spin pumping line broadening mechanism in Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) was investigated by using thulium iron garnet (Tm3Fe5O12 - TmIG) (20 nm)/Tungsten (W) (t) bilayers sputtered on top of gadolinium gallium garnet (111) substrate. The results showed that the interface TmIG/W significantly affected the spin current and increased the damping of the magnetization. By measuring the out-of-plane angular dependence of the FMR resonance field and linewidth, only the spin pumping contribution to the line broadening was obtained, excluding other mechanisms such as Gilbert damping, mosaicity, and two magnon scattering.

Spin-Orbit Torque and Interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in Heavy Metal/Ferrimagnetic Insulator Deposited by Magnetron Sputtering

Zhixiang Ye et al.

Summary: The study investigates the SOT and DMI in HM/FMI bilayers deposited by magnetron sputtering without vacuum breaking. Results show that the effective spin Hall angle in the Pt/TmIG bilayers is much larger than previously reported values, and that the DMI constant scales linearly with the inverse of the TmIG thickness, indicating the interfacial origin of the DMI. This study provides important information for understanding the SOT and DMI in HM/FMI bilayers.

Observation of the crossover between metallic and insulating regimes of the spin Hall effect

Hiroyuki Moriya et al.

Summary: Intense research efforts have provided mechanistic insight into the spin and anomalous Hall effects in metallic samples, but the effect of extrinsic defects is not yet understood. A scaling law describing the spin Hall response of PtO films with increasing oxygen levels reveals an analogy with the anomalous Hall effect in the insulating regime. The universal scaling of the anomalous or spin Hall conductivity with the electric conductivity has been successfully described for metallic systems, revealing the topological nature of these effects.

Intrinsic spin Hall effect in oxidized platinum/magnetic oxide heterostructure

Tianhui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the generation of spin-orbit torques (SOTs) and the spin Hall effect in oxidized platinum/magnetic oxide heterostructures. The results show that the SOT efficiency drastically decreases with an increase in the oxidation level of Pt(O). Additionally, it is demonstrated that the spin Hall conductivity of Pt is highly sensitive to the electric conductivity.

Coherent-incoherent crossover of the intrinsic spin Hall effect in Pd

Satoshi Haku et al.

Summary: The study reports the coherent-incoherent crossover of the spin Hall effect in Pd, demonstrating the existence of two distinct regimes of the spin Hall effect. The observation of the crossover in Pd supports the generality of this phenomenon and highlights the important correspondence between the spin Hall effect and the anomalous Hall effect.

Summary: The study shows that enhancing the resistivity of the Pt layer by nitrogen incorporation can increase the spin Hall effect, confirming that the variation of the intrinsic spin Hall effect is dominated by the change in scattering time.
