Mechanical properties of graphene nanoplatelets-reinforced concrete prepared with different dispersion techniques

Zhangfan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the effects of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) on the mechanical properties of cementitious composites with coarse aggregates. Different dispersion methods including high shear mixing and ultrasonication are studied to disperse GNPs in water. Results show that the use of ultrasonication together with high shear mixing leads to the smallest size graphene sheets. Adding 0.025% GNPs can increase compressive strength by up to 17% in concrete mixtures without significant impact on flexural strength.

AC impedance spectroscopy (AC-IS) analysis to characterize the effect of nanomaterials in cement-based mortars

G. F. da Silva et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the electrical properties of cement mortar with graphene oxide (GO) and nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) using an equivalent impedance circuit. The results showed that the addition of nanomaterials affected the electrical resistance of the high-frequency arc and matrix porosity, which in turn influenced compressive strength. The findings suggest that impedance spectroscopy is a useful tool for monitoring the curing process and microstructure evolution of cementitious composites with nanoreinforcements.

Toward a better understanding of multifunctional cement-based materials: The impact of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs)

Francesca R. Lamastra et al.

Summary: The addition of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) improved the density, compressive, and flexural strength of mortar, with high aspect ratio GNPs showing the best mechanical properties. However, the use of low aspect ratio GNPs resulted in decreased electrical resistivity and increased thermal conductivity in cementitious nanocomposites.
