Corticosteroid-induced low immunoglobulin levels in multiple sclerosis - A confounding factor

Mickael Bonnan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of disease-modifying drugs (DMD) and high-dose corticosteroids (CS) on immunoglobulin (Ig) levels in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The results demonstrate that CS infusion is strongly associated with a decrease in Ig levels during DMD treatment, suggesting the need for further studies considering the effect of CS on Ig levels.

Dimethyl fumarate treatment shifts the immune environment toward an anti-inflammatory cell profile while maintaining protective humoral immunity

Erin E. Longbrake et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that lymphocyte decreases were maintained over the 96-week DMF treatment, while immunoglobulins remained stable. CD4 (+) and CD8 (+) T cells correlated highly with ALC, and adverse event rates were similar across ALC subgroups.

Determinants of Serum Immunoglobulin Levels: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Samer R. Khan et al.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that age and sex influence serum immunoglobulin levels, with older age and male sex associated with higher IgA and lower IgM. Furthermore, ethnicity, diet, lifestyle, and cardio-metabolic factors are also determinants of serum immunoglobulins.
