Fatigue in multiple sclerosis is associated with socioeconomic factors

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between socioeconomic factors and the presence or level of perceived fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). The results showed that higher levels of education were associated with lower levels of fatigue, while receiving a disability pension, being divorced, having children, low parental education, low income, current smoking, and autoimmune comorbidities were associated with higher levels of fatigue. The study also found a higher prevalence of anxiety and depression in pwMS with fatigue.

Prevalence of fatigue and its explicative variables among people with multiple sclerosis

Summary: The study found that 57% of French multiple sclerosis patients were considered fatigued, 18% were non-fatigued, and 24% were in the grey zone. The research showed that non-fatigued patients had higher levels of physical activity, and fatigue severity was associated with physical activity. Disability, physical activity, and unemployment explained 21% of the variance in MFIS.
