Investigation of crystallization behavior of Hf26Be18Ti18Zr18Cu7.5Ni12.5 high mixing entropy amorphous alloys

Ke Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the crystallization kinetics of Hf26Be18Ti18Zr18Cu7.5Ni12.5 high mixing entropy amorphous alloys under non-isothermal conditions. The alloy exhibits two different crystallization events, and the activation energies of these events are calculated. The analysis indicates that the crystallization mechanism is primarily controlled by three-dimensional growth with a nucleation rate decrease.

Crystallization kinetics of Hf28Be18Ti17Zr17Cu7.5Ni12.5 high-entropy bulk metallic glass

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: The crystallization kinetics of Hf28Be18Ti17Zr17Cu7.5Ni12.5 high-entropy bulk metallic glass (HE-BMG) were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under non-isothermal and isothermal conditions. Three crystallization processes were observed in non-isothermal conditions, with the activation energies of peak crystallization temperatures determined. The dependence of local activation energy on crystallized volume fraction was analyzed using the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) method. The mathematical description of non-isothermal crystallization reaction was achieved using the Sestak-Berggren model. Under isothermal conditions, the incubation time and crystallization time decreased while the crystallization peak increased with increasing annealing temperature. The Avrami indices were all less than 2.5, indicating diffusion-controlled three-dimensional growth with decreasing nucleation rate in the crystallization of the glassy alloy.

Effect of miscible and immiscible element microalloying on crystallization behavior and soft magnetic properties of Fe-P-C-B amorphous alloy

Minhao Han et al.

Summary: Microalloying is an effective strategy to enhance the nano-crystallization and improve the soft magnetic properties of Fe-based amorphous alloys. The effect of microalloying of immiscible elements (In and Sn) and miscible elements (Al, Ga, and Ge) in Fe on the crystallization behavior and soft magnetic properties of Fe-P-C-B amorphous alloy was investigated. Microalloying of immiscible elements leads to the formation of fine and uniform alpha-Fe nanograins with low coercivity, while the addition of miscible elements results in the growth of few large alpha-Fe grains and high coercivity. This study suggests a strategy of obtaining amorphous-nanocrystalline alloys with desirable magnetic properties by microalloying of immiscible elements.

Summary: The study showed that the BMG/HEA composite alloy prepared by suction casting method exhibits excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, with higher fracture strength and plasticity compared to individual BMG alloys. It demonstrates the potential of combining the superior properties of BMG alloy and high-entropy alloy in a dual-phase composite alloy.

Effect of continuous rapid annealing on the microstructure and properties of Fe85P11C2B2 amorphous alloy

Summary: This paper investigates a new heat treatment method to inhibit the brittleness caused by annealing in Fe-based amorphous alloys. By using a self-designed continuous rapid annealing equipment, the amorphous precursors were rapidly annealed at 773K for 0.3 s, resulting in the formation of a-Fe phase with a size of 2 to 5 nm. The ribbon sample exhibits high saturation magnetization and low coercivity, as well as good bending ductility.

Effect of Cr/Mo content on the properties of transition-metal based high entropy bulk metallic glasses

Ranbai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, new Fe(20)Co(20)Ni(20)CrxMo(20-x)P(10)B(10) high-entropy bulk metallic glasses were prepared and the effects of Cr/Mo content on thermal stability, mechanical properties, corrosion, and wear resistances were investigated. The results showed that Cr/Mo content affected the glass transition temperature, compressive strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance of the materials.

Fe-based bulk metallic glass with unprecedented plasticity at room temperature

Jiawei Li et al.

Summary: Fe-based bulk metallic glasses (BMG) with excellent soft magnetic properties and ultrahigh strength have been reported in this study, showing unprecedented plasticity at room temperature. The presence of metal-metal bonds in Fe74Mo6P13C7 BMG clusters contributes to the observed plasticity, suggesting a potential pathway for manufacturing dispersion-strengthened glasses with high strength and/or plasticity.

Minor Cr alloyed Fe-Co-Ni-P-B high entropy bulk metallic glass with excellent mechanical properties

Mingcan Li et al.

Summary: A new strategy of minor substitution has been proposed to enhance the plasticity and yielding strength of ductile Fe-based bulk metallic glasses. The locally modified structure leads to improved resistance to shear band formation and propagation, resulting in significant improvement in both properties. One example is the development of (Fe1/3Co1/3Ni1/3)(77.5)Cr-2.5(P1/2B1/2) 20 high entropy bulk metallic glass, which shows substantial enhancement in plasticity and yielding strength.
