Yangqing Chenfei formula attenuates silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis by suppressing activation of fibroblast via regulating PI3K/AKT, JAK/STAT, and Wnt signaling pathway

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate the active compounds and molecular mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine Yangqing Chenfei formula (YCF) in treating silicosis. The results showed that YCF can improve lung function and pathological changes in silicotic rats, inhibit fibroblast activation, and suppress the TGF-β/Smad3 signaling pathway. YCF6, the effective fraction derived from YCF, can significantly inhibit fibroblast activation induced by TGF-β.

Ovatodiolide inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication and ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis through suppression of the TGF-?/T?Rs signaling pathway

Wei-Chung Chiou et al.

Summary: The study found that OVA can effectively inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection and improve pulmonary fibrosis. The results showed that OVA is an effective 3CLpro inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 and has remarkable inhibitory activity against SARS-CoV-2 infection. In addition, OVA can reduce inflammatory cell infiltration and collagen deposition, as well as the levels of pulmonary hydroxyproline, myeloperoxidase, TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-6, and TGF-beta in the lung. In other words, OVA not only helps fight against SARS-CoV-2 infection, but also helps manage injury-induced pulmonary fibrosis.

High-Fat Diet Related Lung Fibrosis-Epigenetic Regulation Matters

Juntang Yang et al.

Summary: Pulmonary fibrosis is a metabolic disease characterized by excessive extracellular matrix deposition, and abnormal lipids have been observed in PF patients and mice models. High-fat diet, particularly the intake of saturated fatty acids and meat, is significantly associated with PF and lung fibrosis. However, the mechanisms underlying the connection between high-fat diet and PF are still unclear. This review highlights the diverse effects of epigenetic dysregulation induced by high-fat diet on fibrotic factors and discusses potential ways to improve patients' conditions and the prospect of targeted therapy based on epigenetic regulation.

Influenza A and B Virus-Triggered Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition Is Relevant to the Binding Ability of NA to Latent TGF-β

Wenxian Yang et al.

Summary: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is an important mechanism for lung tissue repair after injury. Excessive EMT caused by influenza virus infection can lead to pulmonary fibrosis and respiratory failure. This study found that different strains of influenza viruses induce varying degrees of EMT, with influenza A virus triggering stronger EMT compared to influenza B virus. This difference is attributed to the higher ability of neuraminidase in influenza A virus to activate latent TGF-beta.
