Small-sized versus standard magnetic capsule endoscopy in adults: a two-center, double-blinded randomized controlled trial

Summary: The small-sized magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (MCE) device shows good performance in terms of capsule ingestion and examination. Compared to the standard MCE group, the small-sized MCE group has significantly better difficulty scores, swallowing times, and first attempt success rates. Visualization of the esophagus, stomach, and small bowel is comparable between the two groups. The small-sized MCE group has a significantly shorter gastric transit time and longer small-bowel transit time.

In order to standardize its application, guidelines containing 23 statements were established based on clinical evidence and expert opinions, covering various aspects of MCCG. These guidelines are expected to guide clinicians in the standardized and innovative use of MCCG.
