Liver lipidomics analysis reveals the anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effects of gypnosides from heat-processed Gynostemma pentaphyllum in high-fat diet fed mice

Peng Xie et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic mechanism of gypenosides from heat-processed G. pentaphyllum in hyperlipidemic mice. The results demonstrated that heat-processed G. pentaphyllum gypenosides can reduce body weight and blood lipid levels, as well as decrease hepatic lipid accumulation in hyperlipidemic mice. Furthermore, the lipid-lowering effect of gypenosides is achieved through the regulation of genes and proteins involved in lipid metabolism and homeostasis.

Metformin and Insulin Resistance: A Review of the Underlying Mechanisms behind Changes in GLUT4-Mediated Glucose Transport

Rok Herman et al.

Summary: This review discusses the mechanisms of action of metformin, focusing on changes in insulin signaling pathway mediators, AMPK, GLUT4 translocation mediators, and the impact of posttranscriptional modifications. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between metformin action, GLUT4 expression, GLUT4 translocation, and peripheral insulin sensitivity.

Effects of Hydroxy-Alpha-Sanshool on Intestinal Metabolism in Insulin-Resistant Mice

Fangyan Xu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydroxy-alpha-sanshool (HAS) on the intestinal metabolites of insulin-resistant mice. The results showed that HAS alleviated insulin resistance by regulating the gut microbiota and metabolites and affecting lipid and amino acid metabolism pathways.

Ginsenoside compound K inhibits obesity-induced insulin resistance by regulation of macrophage recruitment and polarization via activating PPARγ

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: Obesity disrupts the immune system of adipose tissue and leads to insulin resistance. The study found that ginsenoside CK exerts an anti-diabetic effect by inhibiting macrophage activation. In obese mice, CK reduces inflammatory factor expression, improves insulin resistance and glucose tolerance.

The intersection of metformin and inflammation

Leena P. Bharath et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that metformin not only improves metabolic parameters but also has direct anti-inflammatory effects, mainly through mechanisms such as AMPK activation and mTOR inhibition. Its impact on mitochondrial function and autophagy is crucial for maintaining cellular health and has implications for immune-mediated diseases.

Anti-diabetic drugs and weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes

Elisa Lazzaroni et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the weight-loss effect of non-insulin glucose lowering drugs in patients with type 2 diabetes, and found that new anti-diabetic drugs, particularly GLP1-RA and Tirzepatide, are the most effective in inducing weight loss in these patients. Interestingly, exenatide appears to be the only GLP1-RA that induces a mild weight loss.
