Entorhinal cortex dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the entorhinal cortex (EC) is the earliest affected brain region in Alzheimer's disease (AD), with neuronal dysfunction preceding neurodegeneration. This suggests that initial memory and spatial navigation impairments in AD may be caused by activity dysfunction rather than cell death. This review focuses on the latest findings of EC dysfunction in AD and discusses potential strategies for mitigating AD progression by protecting the EC.
