Isomerization of galactose to tagatose using arginine as a green catalyst

Neeranuch Milasing et al.

Summary: This study investigated the conversion of galactose to tagatose using arginine as a catalyst. The results showed that increasing temperature and time led to continuous consumption of galactose and the formation of rare sugars. Arginine concentration and initial galactose concentration also affected the yield of tagatose.

Solvent effects on catalytic activity and selectivity in amine-catalyzed D-fructose isomerization

Peter Drabo et al.

Summary: Rational catalyst design and optimal solvent selection are crucial for the advancement of biorefining. In this study, the organocatalytic isomerization of D-fructose to D-allulose was explored, and the solvent was found to play a significant role in the selectivity of the reaction. The results suggest that the furanose tautomer of D-fructose is isomerized to D-allulose, and the highest yield of D-allulose, 14%, was obtained in DMF with TBD as the catalyst. The reaction kinetics and mechanism were investigated using operando NMR spectroscopy.

Toward Understanding Base-Catalyzed Isomerization of Saccharides

Irina Delidovich

Summary: This Perspective discusses recent advances in the isomerization of aldoses into ketoses catalyzed by bases. It provides an overview of the reaction mechanism, kinetics, and products obtained via base-catalyzed transformations. The use of soluble metal hydroxides and general bases as catalysts, as well as the influence of organic solvents and the salt effect, are also addressed. The application of solid bases for isomerization and the impact of leached species on catalysis are critically discussed.

The synthesis of thermostable, strongly basic Anion-Exchange resins using Cross-Linked biguanide and its application in the extraction of Sodium copper chlorophyllin

Bao Tianshu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel thermally stable, strongly basic resin with a cross-link biguanide structure was synthesized and investigated. The resin showed optimal thermal stability and adsorption capacity for separating sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC) from plant extract. Results indicated that the main adsorption affinity of the resin towards SCC was due to the synergistic effects of hydrophobic and ionic interactions. The rise in temperature benefited the adsorption equilibrium. A high-purity SCC extract was successfully prepared using this resin.

Recent progress in base-catalyzed isomerization of D-glucose into D-fructose

Irina Delidovich

Summary: The development of a catalytic process for the isomerization of D-glucose into D-fructose is crucial for utilizing lignocellulosic feedstocks effectively. This review focuses on the application of basic catalysts such as solid bases, amines, and buffers. Recent studies suggest that hydroxide ions play a catalytically active role in amine catalysis, while solid bases mainly catalyze isomerization homogeneously.
