Boosting CO2 hydrogenation to high-value olefins with highly stable performance over Ba and Na co-modified Fe catalyst

Joshua Iseoluwa Orege et al.

Summary: A selective Ba and Na co-modified Fe catalyst enriched with Fe5C2 and Fe3C active sites exhibited high selectivity and stability for the synthesis of high-value olefins from CO2 hydrogenation. The combined effect of Ba and Na additives suppressed catalyst deactivation and stabilized FeCx sites. This study provides a strategy for the design of scalable Fe-based catalysts for the stable synthesis of high-value olefins.

Effect of water and methanol concentration in the feed on the deactivation of In2O3-ZrO2/SAPO-34 catalyst in the conversion of CO2/CO to olefins by hydrogenation

A. Portillo et al.

Summary: By using In2O3-ZrO2/SAPO-34 tandem catalyst, the deactivation of the catalyst due to rapid coke deposition on SAPO-34 can be avoided in the direct synthesis of olefins. Co-feeding H2O and/or methanol can alleviate coke deactivation, but high H2O concentration may lower the acidity of SAPO-34, limiting the performance of the tandem catalyst.

Alternative acid catalysts for the stable and selective direct conversion of CO2/CO mixtures into light olefins

A. Portillo et al.

Summary: Different acid catalysts, such as SAPO-34, have been tested in the direct synthesis of light olefins. The presence of strongly acidic sites in SAPO-34 favors the reaction mechanism and shape selectivity, resulting in higher olefins selectivity. However, the catalysts undergo deactivation due to coke deposition, and the regeneration of SAPO-34 requires the removal of soft coke and combustion of hard coke.

Feasibility, Limit, and Suitable Reaction Conditions for the Production of Alcohols and Hydrocarbons from CO and CO2 through Hydrogenation, a Thermodynamic Consideration

Shujia Guo et al.

Summary: The conversion of CO and CO2 into valuable liquid fuels and chemicals through hydrogenation has attracted significant interest. This study evaluates the feasibility, limit, and suitable conditions for these reactions through thermodynamic considerations. Results show that the hydrogenation of CO/CO2 to alcohols, light olefins, and aromatics is thermodynamically viable under appropriate conditions. Although current conversion processes may be restricted by kinetic factors, it is important to ensure that the reactions are conducted under thermodynamically feasible conditions. These results help determine the suitable operation region for CO/CO2 hydrogenation and provide directions for optimizing catalysts and processes.

Role of Zr loading into In2O3 catalysts for the direct conversion of CO2/CO mixtures into light olefins

A. Portillo et al.

Summary: The effect of ZrO2 content on the performance of In2O3-ZrO2 catalyst in the hydrogenation of CO2/CO mixtures has been studied. The results show that controlling the Zr/In ratio can improve the conversion of CO2 and COX, enhance the selectivity of oxygenates, and prevent catalyst sintering. By using In2O3-ZrO2/SAPO-34 tandem catalysts, the conversion of COx can be increased by nearly 5 times, leading to a higher yield of olefins.

Summary: This study evaluated the sensitivity of In2O3 catalysts to CO, finding a decrease in methanol productivity for most catalysts except one. Controlled formation of oxygen vacancies and resistance to sintering were identified as key factors for activation, while a combination of CO/H2O-induced sintering and CO inhibition caused performance loss. Assessment with mixed CO2-CO feeds is crucial for designing industrially viable catalysts for sustainable methanol production.
