The Influence of Cerium to Manganese Ratio and Preparation Method on the Activity of Ceria-Manganese Mixed Metal Oxide Catalysts for VOC Total Oxidation

Parag M. M. Shah et al.

Summary: A series of ceria-manganese mixed metal oxide catalysts with different Ce:Mn ratios were prepared by coprecipitation, and their capabilities for total oxidation of propane and naphthalene were evaluated. The catalyst with a higher manganese content showed the highest activity, specifically Ce0.25Mn0.75Ox. Characterization techniques revealed that the high activity of Ce0.25Mn0.75Ox was attributed to the formation of phase-separated Mn-substituted ceria and Mn2O3 phases. The catalyst preparation technique also played a significant role, as the mechanochemical and urea catalysts exhibited greater activity than the carbonate coprecipitated catalyst.

Acid-etched spinel CoMn2O4 with highly active surface lattice oxygen species for significant improvement of catalytic performance of VOCs oxidation

Yewei Ren et al.

Summary: The strategy of acid-etching was used to improve the catalytic activity of spinel CoMn2O4, and a 0.06 M concentration catalyst showed a 16-fold increase in toluene reaction rate compared to the pristine catalyst at 210 degrees C. The crystal, nanosphere, and mesoporous structures of the 0.06 M catalyst were not significantly damaged. The presence of oxygen vacancies weakened the metal-oxygen bond strength and improved the mobility of surface lattice oxygen species, leading to enhanced catalytic performance.

Optimization of Mn-Mg-Al Mixed Oxides Composition on their Activity towards the Total Oxidation of Aromatic and Oxygenated VOCs

Rebecca El Khawaja et al.

Summary: A series of mixed oxides (Mn-Mg-Al) with varying manganese ratios were prepared and their structural, textural, and redox properties were investigated. The catalysts with higher manganese contents exhibited the best catalytic performance for the total oxidation of ethanol and toluene. The presence of manganese species in different oxidation states (+II, +III, and +IV) on the material's surface and in the bulk was found to be responsible for the surface activity of the catalysts. Mn4Mg2-O was identified as the optimal composition with similar physicochemical properties and catalytic activity compared to noble metal-based commercial catalysts (Pd/?-Al2O3).

Synergistic effects in Mn-Co mixed oxide supported on cordierite honeycomb for catalytic deep oxidation of VOCs

Hongyang Zhao et al.

Summary: Co-Mn mixed oxide catalyst supported on a cordierite monolith was synthesized using ultrasonic impregnation. The catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the combustion of toluene, ethyl acetate, and their mixture. The incorporation of Mn into Co3O4 improved the catalytic activity, and the Co0.67Mn0.33Ox catalyst showed the best performance.

Catalytic Degradation of Toluene over MnO2/LaMnO3: Effect of Phase Type of MnO2 on Activity

Lu Li et al.

Summary: A series of alpha, beta, gamma, delta type MnO2 supported on LaMnO3 perovskite was synthesized by a one-pot method. Compared with alpha-MnO2, beta-MnO2, gamma-MnO2, delta-MnO2, and LaMnO3 oxides, all MnO2/LaMnO3 catalysts exhibited enhanced catalytic performance for toluene degradation. Among them, alpha-MnO2/LaMnO3 showed the highest activity and mineralization efficiency. The improved activity can be ascribed to the higher proportion of lattice oxygen, better low-temperature reducibility, and larger specific surface area, as confirmed by N-2 adsorption-desorption, XPS, and H-2-TPR analysis. The byproducts of toluene oxidation were detected, and the catalytic degradation pathway was discussed in depth using TD/GC-MS and in-situ DRIFTS.

Efficient defect engineering in Co-Mn binary oxides for low-temperature propane oxidation

Ganggang Li et al.

Summary: Novel amorphous Co-Mn binary oxides with enhanced defect were fabricated through a facile self-redox approach, showing remarkable catalytic activity for propane oxidation with the best T-90 at 207 degrees Celsius. In situ spectroscopy technologies were utilized to explore the structure-activity relationship and degradation mechanism of propane oxidation under real reaction conditions. As an effective defect engineering strategy, amorphous binary oxides exhibit excellent activity and can provide insights for developing efficient VOCs catalysts.
