Photocatalytic and antibacterial properties of NaTaO3 nanofilms doping with Mg2+, Ca2+ and Sr2+

Cuicui Wang et al.

Summary: Pure and alkaline earth metal elements (Mg2+, Ca2+ and Sr2+) doped NaTaO3 nanofilms were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method, showing better stability and recycling performance in wastewater treatment. The band gaps of NaTaO3 were reduced to 2.83, 3.01 and 2.96 eV after doping with Mg2+, Ca2+ and Sr2+. Mg-NaTaO3 catalyst exhibited a higher photodegradation efficiency of 80.1% for methylene blue solution under visible light irradiation and a strong inhibition effect on E. coli and S. aureus.

Ce-Co-Mn-Zn ferrite nano catalyst: A synergetic effect of rare earth Ce3+on enhanced optical properties and photocatalysis

N. S. Al-Bassami et al.

Summary: A novel spinel Co0.5Mn0.25Zn0.25CexFe2-xO4 (CMZCF0-CMZCF5) nanoferrite photocatalyst was prepared and characterized for methylene blue (MB) dye degradation. The CMZCF nanoferrites exhibited smaller band gap energies and enhanced photocatalytic performance compared to pure ferrite. The addition of Ce cations decreased electron-hole pairs recombination and increased the material's ability to absorb visible light. The CMZCF5 nanoferrite showed a maximum MB removal efficiency of 97.01% under solar light.

A comprehensive study on the exposure of nanoplastics to constructed wetland ecological systems: Macrophyte physiology and microbial enzymology, community composition and metabolic functions

Yixuan Ma et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the presence of polystyrene nanoparticles (PSNPs) had significant negative impacts on nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, and phosphorus removal in constructed wetlands. The accumulation of PSNPs on biofilms further demonstrated the wetlands' effectiveness in removing nanoplastics. Additionally, the study found that PSNPs affected macrophyte physiology and soil enzyme activities, hindering important metabolism pathways and gene expression related to nitrogen and glucose degradation. Overall, the research indicates that nanoplastics pose a potential threat to wetland ecosystems and should be given more attention.
