Tunable phononic coupling in excitonic quantum emitters

Adina Ripin et al.

Summary: Quantum emitters with strong and tunable coupling to breathing-mode phonons are observed in bilayer WSe2. The emission of each single photon heralds the creation of a phonon Fock state in the atomic-scale excitonic-optomechanical system. Engineering the coupling between fundamental quantum excitations is at the heart of quantum science and technologies.

Photon-Emission-Correlation Spectroscopy as an Analytical Tool for Solid-State Quantum Defects

Rebecca E. K. Fishman et al.

Summary: Photon-emission-correlation spectroscopy is a vital tool for studying atoms, molecules, and solid-state quantum defects. It is commonly used to indicate single-photon emission and can provide additional information about the electronic structure and optical dynamics of emitters. This tutorial presents a standardized framework for using this technique, including theoretical background, data acquisition considerations, and interpretation. The tutorial also highlights important nuances and best practices, such as the g(2)(tau = 0) < 0.5 test, and demonstrates how this experimental technique can be combined with simulations for electronic modeling and quantum control protocols.

Electrical control of quantum emitters in a Van der Waals heterostructure

Simon J. U. White et al.

Summary: Researchers have demonstrated an approach to electrically modulate quantum emitters in an hBN-graphene van der Waals heterostructure. They showed that applying a bias across the device can reversibly activate and modulate quantum emitters in hBN, providing a new avenue for the development of scalable quantum technologies.

Probing the Optical Dynamics of Quantum Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Raj N. Patel et al.

Summary: By using photon emission correlation spectroscopy, we revealed the optical dynamics of quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride. The experimental results showed the existence of quantum emitters with ideal single-photon emission and their photoluminescence emission lineshapes were consistent with individual vibronic transitions. However, polarization-resolved excitation and emission revealed the role of multiple optical transitions, and photon emission correlation spectroscopy revealed the complicated optical dynamics associated with excitation and relaxation.

Spontaneous Polarity Flipping in a 2D Heterobilayer Induced by Fluctuating Interfacial Carrier Flows

Hua Li et al.

Summary: A spontaneous and stochastic polarity-flipping phenomenon has been discovered in monolayer WSe2, triggered by fluctuating carrier flows from or to the adjacent WS2 monolayer. This leads to switching between negative and positive correlations between the emission intensities of WS2 and WSe2 in the heterobilayer.

Deterministic Integration of hBN Emitter in Silicon Nitride Photonic Waveguide

Ali W. Elshaari et al.

Summary: Hybrid integration provides an important avenue for incorporating atom-like solid-state single-photon emitters into photonic platforms. Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is particularly interesting quantum emitter for hybrid integration, as it provides a route for room-temperature quantum photonic technologies. Despite recent progress, a deterministic, site-controlled process for integrating hBN emitters in photonic waveguides remains elusive.
