Velocity-repulsion model for pedestrian dynamics based on a multi-state modelling framework

Heng Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-state modelling framework is proposed to address the pedestrian simulation problem. A velocity-repulsion model is constructed to adjust the pedestrian's behavior based on their velocity and repulsion parameters. Simulation experiments validate the reliability of the model and reveal self-organization phenomena under different scenarios.

On the existence and uniqueness properties of the Hoogendoorn-Bovy pedestrian flow model

Liangze Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the Hoogendoorn-Bovy (HB) pedestrian flow model. The results show that the HB model can be transformed into a forward conservation law equation and a backward Hamilton-Jacobi equation, ensuring the existence and uniqueness of solutions for both equations when suitable parameters are chosen.

Adaptive cell-based evacuation systems for leader-follower crowd evacuation

Miguel A. Lopez-Carmona et al.

Summary: The challenge of crowd control at large events extends beyond emergency evacuations to improving operational efficiency and comfort. Adaptive cell-based crowd evacuation systems can dynamically generate exit-choice recommendations, improving safety and evacuation time. This study investigates the viability of using this mechanism to develop a leader-follower evacuation system, where trained staff guide evacuees to safety. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of adaptive cell-based crowd evacuation systems in guiding evacuees, with evacuation staff motion speed playing a crucial role in balancing egress time and safety.

Exploration of pedestrian side preference behavior with circle antipode experiments: analysis, simulation and implication

Yao Xiao et al.

Summary: Conflicts between crowds are critical sources of safety incidents, and choosing a side is a common strategy for conflict resolution. The study found that in conflicts, around 70% of participants preferred to reach the destination from the right side. Pedestrian side choice involves a sophisticated mechanism, but factors such as handedness, gender, and height do not have significant impacts on the choice of side.

Macroscopic model of multidirectional pedestrian network flows

Elhabib Moustaid et al.

Summary: This article presents a macroscopic model of pedestrian flows through networks of bidirectional corridors connected by multidirectional intersections. The model defines bidirectional sending and receiving flows based on an existing pedestrian bidirectional fundamental diagram, and utilizes the incremental transfer principle to simulate bidirectional flows across nodes with any number of adjacent links. The solution to the model is consistent with the kinematic wave model in its unidirectional properties.

A Continuum model for pedestrian flow with explicit consideration of crowd force and panic effects

Haoyang Liang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a second-order pedestrian model that incorporates Eikonal equations to explicitly consider the impact of individual decisions and crowd pressure on pedestrian dynamics. The crowd movement is simulated using partial differential equations, and the model is tested for stability and effectiveness in a numerical example. The results show that the model is effective in capturing complex phenomena like stop-and-go waves and can be used as a risk-level indicator for crowd management.
