The pesticide fate tool for groundwater vulnerability assessment within the geospatial decision support system LandSupport

Marialaura Bancheri et al.

Summary: This study introduces a pesticide fate tool that can be used in several European countries to assess groundwater vulnerability to pollutants. Through different case studies, the tool's effectiveness in predicting the relative concentration of pesticides at water tables and the arrival of solutes at specific depths based on soil properties, climate conditions, and crop types is demonstrated.

Zero-Tillage Effects on Durum Wheat Productivity and Soil-Related Variables in Future Climate Scenarios: A Modeling Analysis

Angela Puig-Sirera et al.

Summary: This study uses the ARMOSA model to assess the effects of tillage and no-tillage practices on durum-wheat-cropping systems. The results show that no-tillage can increase wheat yield, increase soil organic carbon, and reduce nitrogen leaching, suggesting that it is a more resilient soil-management practice.

Use of GIS, Statistics and Machine Learning for Groundwater Quality Management: Application to Nitrate Contamination

Tariq Judeh et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a comprehensive approach combining GIS, statistics and Machine Learning (ML) for groundwater quality management, including assessment and prediction of NO3 concentrations. The study in Palestine shows increasing and decreasing trends of GNC in different regions. The RF model, using factors such as well depth, well use, anthropogenic on-ground activities, watersheds, and land use, predicts GNC with an average accuracy of 88.5% and a maximum accuracy of 91.7%. This research can guide decision-makers in the adoption of sustainable groundwater protection plans in Palestine.

Governance and groundwater modelling: Hints to boost the implementation of the EU Nitrate Directive. The Lombardy Plain case, N Italy

Arianna Musacchio et al.

Summary: The study explores the issue of unchanged nitrate concentration in the Lombardy Plain and proposes a numerical groundwater flow and transport model to demonstrate the model's utility in management processes. The model successfully replicates head levels and nitrate concentrations, revealing key factors affecting nitrate evolution and external output.
