Risk assessment of TBM jamming based on Bayesian networks

Peng Lin et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method combining the ISM method and the BN method to assess the risk of TBM jamming. By analyzing numerous engineering cases, the geological disasters causing TBM jamming and other key factors are identified. The BN model can dynamically predict the probability of geological disasters and TBM jamming.

Probabilistic tunnel collapse risk evaluation model using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and Delphi survey technique

Jeongheum Kim et al.

Summary: This study proposes a risk evaluation model for tunnel collapse based on a quantified grading system and significant influence factors. Actual tunnel collapse cases were collected and a database was established to select the important influence factors as evaluation indices. The proposed model and TR index were validated and showed good agreement with field cases.

Analysis on ultimate water pressure and treatment measures of tunnels operating in water rich areas based on water hazard investigation

Yanna Ma et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the causes of water hazards in tunnels operating in water-rich areas of China and uses FLAC3D simulation to calculate the actual water head on the tunnel. Based on the actual water head and the investigation of water hazards, treatment measures for tunnel water hazards are proposed, and the ability of the treated tunnel to withstand future high water pressure is evaluated.

Fault tree analysis of cargo leakage from manifold connection in fuzzy environment: A novel case of anhydrous ammonia

Ali Cem Kuzu et al.

Summary: Transporting ammonia cargo requires special expertise due to its dangerous properties. Cargo manifold leakage poses risks of explosion, fire, pollution, and poisoning. This study used Fault Tree Analysis to assess the risk and root causes of ammonia leakage, aiming to introduce a management tool to mitigate the risk.

A Causal Network-Based Risk Matrix Model Applicable to Shield TBM Tunneling Projects

Heeyoung Chung et al.

Summary: This study compares and analyzes three risk analysis models for shield tunnel boring machine tunneling, and proposes an improved risk matrix model based on causal networks. The proposed CN-Matrix model complements the disadvantages and utilizes the advantages of existing models, and can determine risk levels more reasonably. The improved CN-Matrix model is more reliable and robust compared to the three existing models.

Lessons from accidents during tunnel construction

Rita L. Sousa et al.

Summary: With the increasing population and urbanization, the number and complexity of tunnel systems are expected to rise, leading to a higher risk of tunnel accidents. Studying the tunnel accident database allows us to understand the types, causes, and consequences of accidents, helping to identify the most likely scenarios for accidents to occur.
